Scandinavian Enviro Systems – a Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator – informs about the large demand for recovered pyrolysis oil foreseen by the company’s feasibility study. According to Enviro, there are favorable opportunities to establish a commercially successful pyrolysis plant based on Enviro’s technology in the UK. This was the conclusion of a feasibility study that commenced in November 2020 and has now been completed. According to the study, the favorable conditions stem primarily from the large domestic demand for recovered oil for the production of renewable vehicle fuel.

Bridgestone – a global leader in tires and sustainable mobility solutions – is planning to help reduce the carbon footprint of its commercial vehicle line of tires by producing radio-tagged tires in 2024. Tires on vehicles like trucks and buses will be linked to a cloud-based system that is designed to help clients maximize the tires’ lifespan and minimize their carbon footprints. By the end of 2022, Bridgestone intends to begin expanding its plant in Warren County, Tennessee. As part of this renovation, it will install production equipment capable of embedding tires with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags.

As per the latest press release by Nokian Tyres, the company has made a long-term purchase agreement with a tire recycling joint venture. The agreement will help Nokian Tyres reach one of its key sustainability targets, which is to increase the share of recycled and renewable raw materials in tires to 50% by 2030. Nokian Tyres started to use recovered carbon black in a commercial product line in 2022. The long-term purchase agreement with a tire recycling joint venture enables its increased utilization in tires accelerating circularity and sustainability in the tire industry.

The TIP plan created in 2005 is partly managed by Bridgestone, Goodyear and Michelin. Other big names, including Pirelli and Continental, are also involved in the initiative. In total, all the stakeholders represent over 60 percent of international tire producers who provide jobs for over 650,000 employees. To keep the project going, once in two years the CEOs meet in Geneva to hold talks.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) – a regulatory body responsible for end-of-life tire management – announced this April that Mercedes-Benz Australia has become newest contributor to TSA in a commitment to the responsible disposal of end-of-life tyres. Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced it will contribute a levy to Tyre Stewardship Australia based on all new vehicles sold in Australia. In addition, Mercedes-Benz Retailers across the country will be able to become accredited participants with the TSA, agreeing to work with accredited recyclers and collectors of end-of-life tyres. Claire Painter, Corporate Communications Manager, said Mercedes-Benz Australia was proud to demonstrate its commitment towards the sustainable management of end-of-life tyres in an initiative that took effect from January 1, 2021.

The recognition highlights Orion’s achievement as a "Key Innovator" for being the first company to produce circular carbon black from 100% pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires. The market-ready material serves as an alternative to carbon black made from fossil oil.
