The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) reports that the world production of natural rubber (NR) fell 8.7%, year-over-year, during Jan-Aug 2020 to 7.778 million tons. Accounting a 3.8% fall anticipated in the remaining four months of the year, the total production during the full year 2020 is anticipated at 12.901 million ton reflecting a 6.8% fall from the previous year. This revised outlook of the world supply in 2020 is 1.9 percentage points lower than the outlook reported a month ago which was 13.149 million ton by representing a 4.9% fall.

The first seven months of 2020 has witnessed an 8.9% year-over-year (y/y) fall in the world production and a 14.0% y/y fall in world consumption of natural rubber. The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) reported on 18 October that the global demand for natural rubber (NR) has seen 0.8 percent growth reaching almost 7 million tons, whereas its supply dropped over 8 percent to some 5.8 million tons during the first six months of this year. NR market, however, is still pressured by US-China trade row and unstable situation in Middle East. This can further affect natural rubber trends. The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) revealed in its new report on the NR trends observed in March this year that the global manufacturing dropped slightly over 5 percent. In overall, the production of NR was estimated at 2.989 million tons. The association reports that the world produced 13.804 million tons of natural rubber in 2019, 1.4% down compared to the annual production volume in 2018, as per the updated estimates available from individual NR producing countries. Whereas the production was anticipated to increase 2.7% to 14.177 million tons in 2020, according to the revised outlook, it witnessed an annualized 5.2% drop in world production during the first two month of the year.

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) claims that the growth was driven by the recovery in crude oil prices, mid-term supply concerns, new expectations of a faster-paced global economic recovery led by the U.S. All these factors improve outlook for natural rubber demand. According to a statement from ANRPC the crude oil price recovery impact was caused by OPEC’s deal on the 30th of November 2016, which stipulates cut in output by 1.2 million barrels per day during the 1st half of 2017.

Since then some significant hikes have been recorded in Thailand, Japan, China and Malaysia. However, in overall markets are still far behind the peaks reached in April, which suggests that the attempt by the producer-country to rebalance the market is losing strength.

Commenting on the removal process of 500,000 scrap tires, Victorian Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said that approximately 10 weeks would be required to complete the clean-up. After the removal, tires will end up at tire recycling plant Tyrerecycle in Melbourne where they will be shredded into crumb rubber and rubber powder or converted into tire-dervied fuel.
