According to the latest Schwalbe LinkedIn post, a German bicycle dealer Ingo Ruhland collected end-of-life bicycle tires in the basement below his bike store in Freising for 23 years, hoping that the tires could eventually be recycled instead of incinerated. Tire Business magazine reports that internationally known recovered carbon black (rCB) supplier Pyrolyx A.G. has made a series of moves to build up its still nascent U.S. operations ahead of moving its headquarters to facilities under construction in Terre Haute, Indiana. In the U.S., Pyrolyx said it has secured additional debt funding of $4.5 million and agreed to buy the assets of tire recycling business J&R Used Tire Service Inc., which is setting up a tire-shredding facility in Newport, Ind., primarily to supply feedstock to Pyrolyx. The purchase agreement is valued at $4.5 million.

Swedish Tyre Recycling (SDAB) has entered into an agreement to deliver tyre raw material to feed the new tyre pyrolysis plant currently being built in Uddevalla, Sweden by the joint venture between funds managed by Antin Infrastructure Partners and Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro). The plant will utilise the innovative Enviro proprietary technology that allows the production from sorted and processed ELTs (End-of-life tyres) of valuable recovered Carbon Black (rCB) and Pyrolysis Oil in high demand by the industry to create a fully circular supply chain. Spanish Greenval Technologies – a Spanish company offering end-of-life tire (ELT) solutions – is to build a tire recycling facility in partnership with Spanish tire specialist Grupo Soledad. According to Grupo Soledad’s president, Salvador Pérez, the plant is contemplating a 20 million euro investment. Pyrolysis is the foundation of the transformation process. It generates six times less CO2 than any other combustion process, making it one of the cleanest energy sources for turning end-of-life tires into high-value petrochemicals and alternative fuels.

Pyrum Innovations AG, a leading player in tire pyrolysis, has successfully installed two pyrolysis reactors for its production lines 2 and 3 at its main plant in Dillingen/Saar.
