Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) – a Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator – reports it has received an order for 60 tons of recovered carbon black from a major European tire manu-facturer in the premium segment. Reportedly, the tire manufacturer will use the carbon black for produc-tion tests as a step in its efforts to increase the proportion of recovered and renewable materials in their tires.

Over the past year, Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (publ, “Enviro”) has noticed a dramatic increase in interest in the oil — known as pyrolysis oil — that the company can extract from end-of-life tires using its proprietary technology. The oil has a high bio content due to the natural rubber in tires, and in the company’s opinion is therefore of great interest to many players in the market because it could replace fossil-based alternatives.

The company currently has active memorandums of understanding (MoU’s) with three different parties in the tire recycling industry, as well as ongoing discussions with additional interested parties. CEO Thomas Sörensson and the Enviro team recently returned home from the US where they visited, among others, partners in the states of New York and Texas where recycling plants are planned to be built. “There are several reasons why we are more active than ever in North America. The market’s need for carbon black is expected to increase as the establishment of virgin production is becoming increasingly difficult due to stricter regulations and penalties, implemented to overcome the environmental problems created by the existing carbon black production”, says Thomas Sörensson.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems and Treadcraft Limited extend the MoU that was signed on June 29th, 2018 by six months. The parties intend to establish a Joint Venture for co-ownership of a tyre pyrolysis plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes tyres. The plant is planned to be established at 1501 College Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York, USA. “The fact that we have a specified site for the plant is an important step forward. We will now continue to formalize the terms and conditions of the project. Within the next six months, legal, financial and license issues will be clarified, and a plant order will be established. Joint ownership is in line with Enviro’s new business model and it means that we will benefit from the returns that will be generated by a plant” says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems – a renowned tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer from Sweden – reports that its production company has now obtained ISO certification in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 regarding the company’s quality and environmental management systems. “Our production has been running in accordance with both certifications for a long time, being certified formally is important in our customer dialogues, as it’s often required,” says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.

The company’s expansion plan is gradually being implemented, with the aim of establishing recycling capacity of a total of 900,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres by 2030.

The oil and recovered carbon black that Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) produces from end-of-life tires in its plant in Åsensbruk have been accredited under the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme. The information comes from the recent press release by the company. In doing so, Enviro has become – reportedly – the first company in the world to receive ISCC certification for recovered carbon black, and the certification is also confirmation of the previously communicated higher commercial values of both carbon black and oil.

Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and tire recycler Scandinavian Enviro Systems has presented its new forecast for recovered carbon black (rCB) market which is expected to reach over $490 million by 2023. This can be explained by a projected demand growth for recovered carbon black and certified carbon black produced by Enviro; the materials are expected to see demand increase due to a deficit of virgin carbon black.

In a joint appeal, leading tire manufacturers Michelin and Bridgestone believe that there is the potential for an annual total market of up to 1 million tons of recovered carbon black by 2030. The appeal was made last week at the Smithers Recovered Carbon Black Conference in Berlin, which Enviro attended and where the company’s chairman, Alf Blomqvist, was one of the speakers. Both Michelin and Bridgestone have set a goal that by 2050, their tires will consist of 100% sustainable materials. At their appearance in Berlin, both companies stated that the capacity to produce recovered carbon black that meets manufacturer specifications is small compared to the total carbon black market.
