The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is a voluntary scheme that is applicable for the bioeconomy and circular economy for various sectors. All kinds of biomass, waste and residues, non-biological renewables, and recycled carbon materials can be certified under ISCC PLUS. This globally recognized certification is in line with Birla Carbon’s aspiration to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the successful introduction of ContinuaTM Sustainable Carbonaceous Material (SCM).

According to the latest Smithers’press release, the Carbon Black World 2023 Conference, organized by Smithers and supported by the local host partner Jiangxi Black Cat, was a great success. 20+ speakers and 400+ delegates joined the conference in Jingdezhen, 11-14 April 2023.The conference brought together an international audience that spanned the entire value chain, including producers, end-users, equipment suppliers, and solution providers across the tire, rubber, plastics, compounds, and ink industries. “We were delighted to bring the Global leaders of the Carbon Black value chain to China, the world’s largest carbon black market.”, said Ciaran Little, VP, Americas & Asia Pacific, Information Division at Smithers. “The event provided a timely forum for discussion of the key opportunities and challenges in the sector and a vital platform for collaboration and future partnership.”

Yogesh Gaikwad, a technical consultant for carbon black, recently joined the team of Weibold. Yogesh has 13+ years of experience in chemicals and material science. Throughout his career, he has been analyzing petroleum products and participating in leading R&D projects in the carbon black industry. A graduate of an MSc program in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Mumbai, Yogesh worked with carbon black production technologies and feedstock, focused at final product applications. Working as a lab analyst, quality assurance officer, research associate, laboratory manager, technical and product development manager, he supported Gharda Chemicals, Geo Chemical Laboratories Pvt., Birla Carbon, Phillips Carbon Black and BKT Carbon.

The chemical recycling of end-of-life tires (ELT) via state-of-the-art pyrolysis technologies does not only avoid greenhouse gas emissions compared to today’s conventional production processes, but it also increases the resource efficiency while closing the loop in the transition to a circular economy. However, civil organisations criticise the production of fuel through chemical recycling, sometimes mutilate the terminology, pointing to the associated environmental impacts, while they overlook the fact that modern ELT pyrolysis concepts are not geared towards the production of "fuels" (which, by the way, should not be defined as "recycling" but rather as less preferred "recovery" according to the EU waste hierarchy).
