Scandinavian company Enviro stated that it conducts negotiations with a US company EE-TDF Cleveland LLC, a Denmark-based WindSpace A/S, and a Canada-based enterprise Treadcraft Limited after voicing earlier plans to construct tire recycling facilities that would rely on its patented tire pyrolysis technology. Even though the initial deadline has passed, Enviro says that the chances for realization of these plans remain quite high. The construction has been discussed by the parties for more than a year.

Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and tire recycler Scandinavian Enviro Systems has presented its new forecast for recovered carbon black (rCB) market which is expected to reach over $490 million by 2023. This can be explained by a projected demand growth for recovered carbon black and certified carbon black produced by Enviro; the materials are expected to see demand increase due to a deficit of virgin carbon black.

Enviro – a renowned tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer who targets recovered carbon black and fuel oil – reports that its pyrolysis technology is in high demand in the North American market. The company currently has active memorandums of understanding (MoU’s) with three different parties in the tire recycling industry, as well as ongoing discussions with additional interested parties. CEO Thomas Sörensson and the Enviro team recently returned home from the US where they visited, among others, partners in the states of New York and Texas where recycling plants are planned to be built. “There are several reasons why we are more active than ever in North America. The market’s need for carbon black is expected to increase as the establishment of virgin production is becoming increasingly difficult due to stricter regulations and penalties, implemented to overcome the environmental problems created by the existing carbon black production”, says Thomas Sörensson.

Recently, Scandinavian Enviro Systems – the Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer – published a press release which tells about the new lease agreement for tire pyrolysis plant site in Denmark, signed by a joint venture of Enviro and Windspace A/S – Elysium Nordic. According to Enviro, Elysium Nordic ApS is the official name of the prospective joint venture launched by Enviro and WindSpace A/S. Reportedly, it has signed a lease agreement with Associated Danish Ports (ADP) on February 5, 2019 for a site in Nyborg harbor on Funen, Denmark. The press release mentions that land lease is valid for 20 years with an extension option for additional 15 years; also, the agreement includes a 5-year option to extend the leased area to enable a phase two of the project that will double its capacity. The plant construction is scheduled to start in 2019, once different commercial questions are settled, and will be completed in 2021. The cost of the project is estimated at DKK 300 million, i.e. over EUR 40,2 million.

The researchers are expected to keep on conducting the project to make sure the results are verified so the product that has pyrolysis oil and used as fuel is ready for commercialization. One of the objectives of the initiative is to reduce consumption of fossil oil. And to attain it, Sandström said that it was necessary to find refineries that would accept tire pyrolysis oil as a raw material so this would be commercially successful.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems and Treadcraft Limited extend the MoU that was signed on June 29th, 2018 by six months. The parties intend to establish a Joint Venture for co-ownership of a tyre pyrolysis plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes tyres. The plant is planned to be established at 1501 College Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York, USA. “The fact that we have a specified site for the plant is an important step forward. We will now continue to formalize the terms and conditions of the project. Within the next six months, legal, financial and license issues will be clarified, and a plant order will be established. Joint ownership is in line with Enviro’s new business model and it means that we will benefit from the returns that will be generated by a plant” says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.

The Intellectual Property Authority of the European Union (EUIPO) recently approved a trademark EnviroCB which belongs to the company Scandinavian Enviro Systems. Enviro is the first company in the world which commenced supplying recycled carbon black (rCB) to the premium segment of automotive industry. Now that the trademark has been registered, Enviro has a chance to deliver rCB to other markets and industries to substitute virgin carbon black.
