Velorim, the UK-based initiative for recycling bicycle tires and inner tubes, has announced plans to double its collection points across the country by 2026. With over 600 locations already established, the organization is working to make cycling more sustainable by offering an easy and cost-effective solution for managing tire waste.

Each year, an estimated 44,000 tonnes of bicycle tires and inner tubes are discarded in the UK. Limited recycling options mean much of this waste ends up in landfills, where harmful materials like lead and zinc can seep into the soil, or is incinerated, producing large amounts of CO2. Velorim is addressing this issue by providing local bike shops and repair centers with recycling programs, making it simple for cyclists to responsibly dispose of used tires and inner tubes.

Since its launch in 2020, Velorim has collected and recycled over 150,000 tires and an equal number of inner tubes. To support its expansion goals, co-founders Russ Taylor and Richard Lawrence are urging cyclists to nominate local bike shops and repairers to join the program. “Cyclists are often passionate about environmental issues, and our service aligns with that ethos. By expanding our reach, we can make a greater impact in reducing cycling waste,” the co-founders said.
