AZuR prepares next phase to strengthen the tire circular economy
The Allianz Zukunft Reifen (AZuR) will enter its next phase in 2026, aiming to expand collaboration across the tire recycling value chain and further advance the tire circular economy in Germany and Europe. Since its creation, the initiative has promoted sustainable solutions including repair, retreading, regrooving, and both mechanical and chemical recycling of end-of-life tires.
AZuR describes its role as creating a foundation for climate-friendly mobility, while serving as a model for circular economy practices that could inspire other industries and waste streams. With growing political support, the network intends to bring more companies, institutions, and universities into its activities, building stronger links between industry and research.
In July 2025, SDS Systemtechnik joined AZuR as a new partner. The company specializes in optoelectronic tire testing technologies such as laser marking, load and pressure testing. These systems aim to improve efficiency, safety, and traceability in retreading and recycling operations, and contribute technical precision to the broader circular economy.
AZuR emphasizes that new partners benefit from visibility, access to studies and best practices on areas like pyrolysis, devulcanization, and tire wear reduction, as well as opportunities to participate in project groups on retreading, rubberized asphalt, and mechanical and chemical recycling.
