Pyrum secures Continental approval for recovered carbon black from expanded production facility
Pyrum Innovations AG has received full delivery approval from Continental for recovered carbon black (rCB) produced at its newly commissioned milling and pelletising facility in Dillingen/Saar, marking another important step in the commercialisation of its tyre recycling operations.
The approval covers Pyrum’s ThermoTireBlack (TTB) material manufactured at the company's expanded end-of-life tyre recycling complex and confirms that the product meets Continental’s quality requirements for use in tyre production.
Continental approves rCB from new facility
Pyrum announced that Continental has granted unlimited delivery approval for recovered carbon black produced at the new milling and pelletising plant, which entered regular production operations in April 2026.
The approval follows a successful audit and validation process, during which the tyre manufacturer assessed product quality and manufacturing consistency.
According to Pyrum, the decision means that all major facilities included in the latest expansion of its Dillingen/Saar site have now received official approval from Continental.
Expanded production site reaches another milestone
The milling and pelletising facility forms part of Pyrum’s broader expansion programme, which includes additional thermolysis capacity and upgraded material processing infrastructure.
The plant currently operates at a processing rate of approximately 750 kilograms per hour.
During commissioning, Pyrum conducted a short-term capability analysis that demonstrated stable operating conditions and reproducible product quality, supporting the approval process.
The company said the latest certification validates the performance of its recovered carbon black production system and confirms the material's suitability for demanding tyre manufacturing applications.
Building on previous Continental approvals
The latest approval follows earlier certifications granted by Continental in 2024 for Pyrum’s shredding facility as well as its TAD2 and TAD3 thermolysis reactors.
With the addition of the milling and pelletising plant, Continental has now approved all facilities associated with the recent expansion of Pyrum’s flagship recycling site.
The approvals further strengthen the long-standing collaboration between the two companies as tyre manufacturers increasingly seek certified circular raw materials for future production.
Production capacity expansion continues
Pyrum plans additional optimisation measures at the facility to further improve operational efficiency and increase output.
The company expects the plant to reach full production capacity following scheduled modifications during the third quarter of 2026.
Once completed, the upgrades are expected to support larger volumes of recovered carbon black production while maintaining the quality standards required by tyre manufacturers.
Growing demand for certified recycled materials
The approval reflects the growing importance of recovered carbon black within the tyre industry's sustainability strategies.
As manufacturers work to reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of recycled and renewable materials, certified rCB is becoming an increasingly important alternative to virgin carbon black.
For Pyrum, the latest approval strengthens its commercial position in the European tyre recycling market and supports the company's efforts to scale production of circular raw materials derived from end-of-life tyres.
