Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) under the aegis of MoEF&CC, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Ministry of Road Transport & Highways - India is organizing a one-day conference on "Policy Perspective: Strengthening Circularity through Extended Producer Responsibility". On July 14, 2021, the European Commission unveiled the 'fit for 55' package to align with the EU's target of a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, part of the broader European Green Deal aiming for climate neutrality by 2050. The package revises the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II), increasing the target for renewable energy consumption from 32% to 40%, later raised to 45% under the REPowerEU plan. Additional targets are proposed for sectors like transport, buildings, industry, and heating, advancing the EU's transition to a greener future.

Biesterfeld Performance Rubber, a division of the Biesterfeld Group, has been selected as distributor by global recycling company Genan for their micronized rubber powders as well as for the easy-to-use rubber modifier GENAN RUBBER+ PREMIXED. The distribution agreement covers the Mechanical Rubber Goods segment in the European rubber market with immediate effect. With this new, international partnership, Biesterfeld Performance Rubber is further expanding its rubber portfolio of innovative and sustainable products, while Genan is strengthening focus on developing new applications for their recycled rubber products.

Thanks to 160 energy-saving projects, Continental Tires reduced its annual energy requirements by around 150 gigawatt hours in 2023. This was achieved, for example, through the increased use of renewable energies and thermal insulation. 150 gigawatt hours equates to powering about 12,500 family homes for a year, with an average consumption of 12,000 kilowatt hours per year. Energy in the tire industry is used, for example, to generate steam, which is required for tire vulcanization. In this production step, a rubber compound is converted into flexible, elastic rubber. With more efficient steam generation, Continental has reduced its CO2 emissions by 31,000 tons in 2023 alone.

The T8 Exemption, originally designed to support small businesses in the UK tire recycling sector, has been misused and abused, leading to negative impacts on legitimate, permitted recycling businesses. Seven years after the removal was first announced, we still don't seem to be close to a resolution. The domestic UK tyre recycling industry is being weakened by waste tyre exports to India.

The nominations are open until April 26, 2024, in four categories: Leader of the Year, Young Leader, Lifetime Achievement, and Sustainability. Anyone can nominate a deserving individual or organization. Corporate nominees must have a physical presence, e.g., office or facility, in Canada. Nominated individuals can be domiciled anywhere. Self-nominations are only accepted for corporate nominees in the Sustainability category.
