Australian Tyre Recyclers Association (ATRA) reports about the decision of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to ban the exports of various waste products, including scrap tires. COAG has introduced a timetable to make the ban effective; the initiative was supported and welcomed by ATRA. “There are two distinct streams of used tyre exports, one is sustainable, the other clearly is not and a timetable to ban the export of whole baled tyres from Australia is welcomed”, said Robert Kelman, Executive Officer at ATRA.

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) recently published a press release about its organizing the 12th edition of its Annual Rubber Conference on October 7, 2019. The Government of Indonesia is hosting the conference in Yogyakarta. In its press release, ANRPC highlights that the smallholder-dominated natural rubber (NR) production sector has limitations to adopt the sustainability norms for NR which are initiated and largely set by the automotive tire manufacturing industry.

Ewan Scott, the chief editor of Tyre and Rubber Recycling magazine, journalist and expert in global tire recycling sector, informs about that Tire Recycling Forum will be held again as a part of The Tire Cologne in 2020. According to Ewan’s article in the Tyre and Rubber Recycling Magazine, the format of the event will stay similar. Tyre and Rubber Recycling has already spoken to a number of potential speakers who might wish to address the Forum across a range of tire recycling topics.

To handle waste such as scrap tires, sometimes one may want to seek an alternative to recycling – tire pyrolysis. An award-winning innovation method for tire recycling is crumb rubber devulcanization. The original process was developed by a scholar whose innovation was commercialized by Tyromer Inc. – the Canadian company founded by a national university. What makes devulcanization stand out is the fact that it does not require the application of any chemical solvents. Moreover, Tyromer’s process helps reuse waste tire rubber in new tires and in retreads – this was hardly possible before.

Industry officials in India told Reuters that natural rubber output is expected to increase 15 percent during 2017-2018. This is expected to be the highest price in almost 4 years. Also, higher prices make farmers commence using trees abandoned before. Notwithstanding, natural rubber price rally appears to be bad news for tire manufacturers as it cuts down profits.
