Vaculug has submitted a proposal to the UK Cabinet Office consultation Public Procurement: Growing British Industry, Jobs, and Skills, calling for retreaded tyres to be mandated in public sector fleets. The company argues that such a policy would cut costs, create jobs, and support national sustainability objectives.

AZuR’s (Allianz Zukunft Reifen) new partner, the Gesellschaft im Ostalbkreis für Abfallbewirtschaftung mbH (GOA), a municipal waste management company in Germany, has been relying on retreaded tires for many years. Today, around 120 of its vehicles run entirely on retreaded tires — a strong example of how circular economy principles can be effectively integrated into everyday municipal operations.

The Allianz Zukunft Reifen (AZuR) will enter its next phase in 2026, aiming to expand collaboration across the tire recycling value chain and further advance the tire circular economy in Germany and Europe. Since its creation, the initiative has promoted sustainable solutions including repair, retreading, regrooving, and both mechanical and chemical recycling of end-of-life tires.

On 8 July 2025, the AZuR project group on retreading met at Marangoni’s facility in Henstedt-Ulzburg to advance strategies for strengthening tire retreading in Germany and across Europe. A main focus was preparation for the second AZuR Retreading Summit, scheduled for 16–17 September 2025 at the KRONE TrailerForum. The event will bring together key players in transport and logistics to promote the circular economy through retreaded tires, with a special Logistics Day for fleet operators.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) founder Bengt Sture Ershag received the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Recircle Awards. Ershag received the award for his lifelong efforts to create a more sustainable handling of end-of-life tires. In addition to being the founder of Enviro, Bengt Sture Ershag is also the inventor and developer of the fundamentals of Enviro's leading pyrolysis technology.

The winners of the 2025 Recircle Awards were announced live at Autopromotec 2025 by the organisers, Retreading Business and Tyre & Rubber Recycling magazines. This global awards event recognises sustainability-driven innovation, practices, and services in the tyre retreading and recycling industries.

The AZuR network had a strong showing at the 2025 Recircle Awards ceremony in Bologna, taking home seven awards. The international expert jury recognized AZuR partners Genan, Marangoni, and Italmatic for their innovative solutions in retreading and tire recycling. In addition, AZuR network coordinator Christina Guth received the Women’s Award for the Tyre Retreading Sector. “This award is a recognition of the commitment of all AZuR partners in recent years to advancing the circular tire economy,” said Guth at the awards ceremony.

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and its members express strong support for H.R.3401 to strengthen domestic tire retreading. The bill, reintroduced by U.S. Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL) and Emilia Strong Sykes (D-OH), proposes tax credits for fleet purchasers of American-made retreaded commercial tires, aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing, job creation, and sustainable tire solutions.
