Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) – a Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment designer and operator – and a global tire manufacturer Michelin have signed three definitive agreements that form the basis of the companies’ strategic partnership. The agreements regulate the terms for a jointly owned plant for the end-of-life tire pyrolysis in Chile, the terms and conditions for Michelin’s use of Enviro’s patented technology, and payment for this, and the terms and conditions for payment to Enviro for deliveries of technology and services to the jointly owned plant in Chile. Attempting to cut costs while launching a tire recycling or pyrolysis business, companies often fall prey to low-quality equipment manufacturers whose equipment does not fulfill to their promises. Typically, such a low quality equipment has far more attractive prices and very often comes from countries, where labor and material costs are still very low. Although seemingly benefitting its buyer through low initial capital investment, such equipment can kill a young pyrolysis company or seriously undermine its operation. The parties plan to complete the DFS by the end of June 2021 and anticipate the project being financed before the end of 2021, with construction taking place in 2022 and operations starting in 2023. It’s envisioned that with Klean’s intellectual property and know-how for the processing of scrap tires and its ability to apply its proven portfolio of IP on a global basis, starting with an operating tire recycling facility in Greece will shorten the project development cycle. This project is expected to transform end-of-life tires into high quality, valuable raw materials primarily a high grade recovered carbon black (“rCB”) and recovered fuel oil or what is known as pyrolysis oil akin to an MDO oil. This plant will be fully integrated with Klean’s proprietary tire char upgrading system that enables the economic conversion of low-value tire char into high-value carbon black replacements which can replace virgin Carbon Black by volumes of 10% up to 100% depending on the specific application. Klean estimates that the carbon emission offsets from the Pyrolysis Hellas facility will be in excess of 100,000 metric tons annually.

In late December 2020, Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment manufacturer Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) reported about updates to its long-term collaboration agreement with Michelin. According to the press release, as part of the strategic partnership negotiations, Enviro and the French global tire manufacturer Michelin have agreed on the principle terms for establishing the first jointly owned recycling plant and a license agreement regulating the terms of use for Enviro’s tire recycling (pyrolysis) technology as well as subsequent compensation. The agreement is subject to the approval of Enviro’s owners at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and the closing will be done after the EGM. Ecolomondo Corporation (TSX-V: ECM) (the “Company” or “Ecolomondo”) releases its unaudited interim consolidated financial statements and notes hereto and its related management discussion & analysis (“MD&A”) for the interim period ended September 30, 2020 (the “Interim Financial Statements”). Ecolomondo says that during the period, it made considerable progress on the construction of its new Hawkesbury Thermal Decomposition (“TDP”) turnkey facility. Management estimates that construction of the building that will house the plant is about 90% complete and expects completion by the end of 2020. Installation of the plant equipment began in late August of 2020 and is proceeding according to schedule while commissioning is now scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2021.

Queensland’s Norwell Motorplex – one of Australia’s leading multi-use moto venues – will be resurfaced with a groundbreaking new asphalt product which is made from recycled tyres, says an online magazine Speed Cafe. Known as ‘Carbonphalt’, the product is the result of a partnership between Austek Asphalt Production and Pearl Global, and will first be used to replace the surface of Norwell’s 2.2km track. With 2500 tonnes of Carbonphalt required to complete the job, the project will account for 25,000 tyres which otherwise would have ended up in landfill. To make the product, end-of-life tyres will be broken down to recover carbon char, reusable steel, and fuel oil by Pearl Global, which is based near Norwell at the northern end of the Gold Coast.
