The Re-Tyre CO₂ project, coordinated by Saras SPA Raffinerie Sarde, has secured €9.3 million from the European Innovation Fund to construct a state-of-the-art pyrolysis plant in Cagliari, Sardinia, with operations expected to begin in March 2029. The facility will process 10,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires (ELTs) annually, converting them into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), recycled carbon black, and gas used to power the plant. The project employs an optimized low-temperature pyrolysis process to improve oil yields and product quality, with the goal of producing over 2.6 million kg of kerosene annually, equivalent to fueling around 260,000 km of flights.

The Government of Gujarat, through the State Pollution Control Board (GPCB), has officially approved the establishment of continuous tyre pyrolysis plants for the production of tyre pyrolysis oil (TPO) and recovered carbon black (RCB). Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) and the French tire manufacturer Michelin have initiated a collaboration following successful tests, which means that Enviro will recycle valuable raw materials such as carbon black and oil from Michelin's used racing tires. The recycled carbon black can then be reused by Michelin to produce new racing and other tires.
