Investors were taking a much closer interest in the sector, especially because of the increasing concern from customers for greater sustainability. “Circularity is finally a reality for the tyre and rubber industry,” he said, referring to chemical recycling such as pyrolysis. “We have always been the poor relative in the recycling industry – because for a long time there was no circularity, as with metals which can be recycled infinitely. “Materials that weren’t necessarily sustainable from a chemical recycling point of view are becoming more and more sustainable thanks to growing demand.”

The plant breeder Kartoffelzucht Böhm has increased the research network for the Taraxagum project, which aims to harvest natural rubber from dandelion. Gaining even more influence over dandelions' breeding is the goal of the reinforcement. “We are pleased to welcome another plant cultivation specialist to our network. The internationally active company Böhm has great experience in the breeding of cultivated plants. These are ideal prerequisites for our Taraxagum project,” commented Dr. Carla Recker, Head of the Expert field Materials Chemistry and Taraxagum at Continental Tires.

Continental tires with ContiRe.Tex-technology can now be ordered by dealers across Europe. The company's press release says the PremiumContact 6, EcoContact 6 and AllSeasonContact in five dimensions are each equipped with the sustainable ContiRe.Tex technology. Continental tires containing polyester made from recycled PET bottles are now available to all dealers in Europe. The company has brought the so-called ContiRe.Tex technology, which can completely replace the conventionally polyester in the tire carcass, into series production in April 2022.

Pyrum Innovations AG ("Pyrum"), a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tyres (ELT) based on its patented pyrolysis technology, has entered into a partnership agreement with the technology group Siemens. The aim of the partnership is to further promote, optimise and scale Pyrum's pyrolysis plants technologically and economically with Siemens' digitalisation and automation portfolio.
