The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) says that the global outlook of natural rubber (NR) market stays positive in 2022. The world production is expected to grow by 1.9% at 14.107 million tons while the world consumption is expected a moderate growth at 1.2% to 14.232 million tons during 2022.

End-of-life tires (ELT) are a valuable resource for the circular economy. Of course, natural rubber is important, but it only makes up roughly a fifth of a passenger vehicle's tire. Synthetic polymers, steel, and textiles all play a role in the process.

Tyre Stewardship Australia – the end-of-life tire management authority in Australia – writes that the tire manufacturing industry is now taking another step towards assuring sustainable natural rubber. According to its recent social media feed, members of the multi-stakeholder Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) took an important step towards ensuring the production, processing and consumption of natural rubber does not cause social or environmental harm.

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) says its outlook of global natural rubber has improved further this month based on the preliminary updates given by Member Governments up to November 2021. Although the production in most producing countries is affected by adverse weather this month, the global production of NR is expected to grow by 2.1% to 13.882 million tonnes. The outlook on global demand remains positive with expansion by 8.7% to 14.076 million. The favorable market fundamental brought positive sentiments to the NR market.

GMN is one of Spain's largest tire recyclers, with its headquarters in Catalonia. According to the Agència de Residus de Catalunya, it operates in a market that generates some 40,000 tons per year in Catalonia alone. Spain's GMN continues to be a success story as it recycles its 7 millionth end-of-life tire. GMN has two facilities: one with 10,000 square meters in Manresa and the other with 40,000 square meters in Maials (Segrià). The initial stage involves collecting and sorting tires from Barcelona and Girona, which are then transported to Maials, where the manufacturing and offices are located. Lleida, Tarragona, and Huesca tires are also delivered here.

ANRPC’s outlook for world natural rubber (NR) has been revised downward as member governments updated its figures for 2021. According to the Association, the lower growth anticipated in world production at 1.4% amounting to 13.787 million tons; while the world demand expects 8.9% growth to 14.116 million tonnes during 2021. Some downward adjustments made by member governments in their latest estimates. ANRPC says despite the positive market fundamental in the NR market, the prices of NR in physical and futures market have been bearish in September 2021 as compared to previous month. The average of FOB price in block rubber market have posted a contraction of 5% in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur market. While price deviation between RSS-3 in Bangkok and RSS-4 in Kottayam has reduced from US$0.60 per kg to US$0.52 per kg towards the end of the month. Both markets also posted a lower average price during this same reference period.

The company said the tire contains 42.8% sustainable materials, which include bio-sourced and recycled materials. The tire is built with natural rubber silica, recovered carbon black and reclaimed rubber from end-of-life tires.

Both physical and futures NR markets have posted downward price trends during August 2021. Despite such downward trends, the average FOB price in block rubber market have improved this month. The average FOB price of STR-20 rose US$0.11 per kg to US$1.72 per kg, while the SMR-20 price improved US$0.09 per kg to US$1.73 per kg during the reference period. The same observations also shared in rubber sheet markets, however the price deviation between RSS-3 in Bangkok and RSS-4 in Kottayam have widened further approximately US$0.60 per kg during August 2021 as compared to US$0.50 per kg recorded in July 2021.
