In its latest press release, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) reported that on October 21, Australia’s Environment Minister’s Meeting announced end-of-life tires will be included on the Minister’s product stewardship priority list. The product stewardship priority list identifies products and materials considered to be most in need of a product stewardship approach, including post-consumer use and disposal.

Recently, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) launched the funding for Australian designed, developed and built solutions that will increase tyre resource recovery and decrease the burden of waste for future generations. TSA has already provided $8 million across 56 projects that increase consumption of Australian tyre derived material, made by Australian recyclers, from locally generated used tyres.

TSA says its mission remains unchanged: to support to the best of its ability the sustainable growth and profitability of local recycling through important initiatives such as Market Development Fund and ground-breaking initiatives such as the Foreign End Market Verification program. TSA's team says they are heartened by the organization's achievements, including over $8 million committed to market development projects and a continued focus on increasing recovery rates in the off-the-road tyre sector.

According Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) – Australian end-of-life tyre recycling and management authority – the country's Northern Territory recovers only 12% of its used tyres, compared to a national recovery rate of 72%. That’s 4,300 tonnes of used tyres buried in pit, landfilled, stockpiled or illegally dumped each year.   Tyre Stewardship Australia CEO Lina Goodman says, “the Northern Territory’s unique features make it an ideal testing hub, however it is also a challenging place to recycle and recover the valuable resources from its used tyres.”
