Grupo Soledad has obtained two Environmental Product Declarations certified by AENOR under the GlobalEPD program for recycled rubber solutions developed by its Industrial Division. The declarations cover rubber granulate produced by Industrias del Neumático and an elastomeric mat manufactured by Caucho Industrial Verdú for resilient railway infrastructure applications. The certifications provide independently verified environmental information based on product lifecycle assessment and are intended to improve transparency for recycled materials derived from end-of-life tires. According to Grupo Soledad, the declarations support wider use of recycled rubber in sports facilities, construction, civil engineering and infrastructure by giving architects, engineers, contractors and public authorities quantified environmental data that can be used in procurement and sustainability assessments.

A Sunshine Coast Council road trial in Queensland has demonstrated that crumb rubber produced from off-the-road tires can be used in asphalt and bitumen applications with performance comparable to conventional tire-derived crumb rubber, while a new lifecycle assessment indicates potential greenhouse gas savings when the modified pavement achieves a longer service life. The demonstration used crumb rubber produced entirely from OTR tires sourced from local construction equipment and incorporated it into several pavement treatments across Perlan Street, Railway Parade and Spalls Road. Twelve-month performance results found that OTR crumb rubber could be substituted for conventional crumb rubber without significant changes to asphalt production or placement, while laboratory testing indicated improved resistance to aging and environmental cracking. A 2026 lifecycle assessment by the National Transport Research Organisation found that although some crumb rubber-modified pavements have higher initial embodied emissions, longer service life and reduced maintenance could lower whole-of-life greenhouse gas emissions by up to 20% under the scenarios studied.

Tess Munt MP used the Tyre Recovery Association Briefing Day 2026 in Coventry to call for tighter regulation of end-of-life tire exports, stronger enforcement of digital waste tracking and greater use of green public procurement to support the UK tire recycling and retreading sector. Speaking to more than 100 representatives from tire recovery, retreading, retail, manufacturing, regulation and trade associations, the MP for Wells and Mendip Hills argued that current policy allows large volumes of whole waste tires to leave the UK while significant licensed domestic recycling and remanufacturing capacity remains unused. Her proposals included removing T8 waste exemptions, introducing a shred-only export model similar to Australia’s, requiring verifiable proof of arrival for exported tires and setting procurement requirements for retreaded tires and rubberized asphalt. The event also featured discussion of UK road conditions, rubber-modified asphalt and domestic circular economy capacity, with participation from the TRA, NTDA, BTMA and ITMA.

TNU says tire recycling alone is no longer enough to complete the circular economy unless recovered materials return to the market and replace virgin raw materials. In an article by Javier de Jesús Landesa, Operational Director of Tratamiento de Neumáticos Usados, the Spanish collective system argues that public procurement can become one of the strongest tools for creating stable demand for materials recovered from end-of-life tires. Spain already has a consolidated tire management system and an industry capable of converting used tires into rubber, steel, textile fibers and other secondary raw materials. However, TNU says the main challenge is now commercial and industrial: recycled rubber, retreaded tires, recovered carbon black and other tire-derived materials need markets large enough to absorb them and recognize their technical, environmental and economic value.

Mexico’s Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes is carrying out periodic conservation works on the federal highway 15 Morelia-Guadalajara using recycled materials, including ground rubber from end-of-life tires. The works are being carried out through Centro SICT Jalisco on isolated sections between kilometers 97+940 and 116+500, in the area between Jocotepec and El Molino. According to local reporting, the technique combines recycled asphalt pavement, known as RAP, with ground tire rubber to produce an asphalt mix designed to improve pavement resistance and durability. The project links road maintenance with tire recycling, rubber recycling and circular economy objectives by creating an infrastructure outlet for waste tire materials while improving the performance of the road surface.

The topic is especially relevant to Kuwait because the former Al-Rheyya site once contained more than 40 million waste tires before they were transferred to Al-Salmi for treatment and recycling. The global retread tire market is projected to grow from $10.8 billion in 2025 to $18.5 billion by 2035, according to a new market intelligence study published by Radial Insights. The forecast points to a compound annual growth rate of 5.58% over the period, with demand driven mainly by commercial fleets seeking lower tire costs, longer casing life and improved cost per mile. Retread tires are presented as an important circular economy solution because they extend the useful life of tire casings and reduce the need for repeated new tire purchases. The study says retreads typically cost 30% to 50% less than comparable new tires, making them attractive for trucking, logistics, mining, construction, public transport and aviation operators that consume tires at high rates.

New consumer research commissioned by Tyre Stewardship Australia has found strong public support for national rules requiring used tires to be properly collected and recycled. The YouGov study, conducted in March 2026 among 1,051 vehicle owners, found that 91% support national rules for used tire collection and recycling, while 92% believe the tire industry should take greater responsibility. TSA said the findings strengthen the case for a whole-of-supply-chain mandatory tire product stewardship scheme covering importers, retailers, collectors, recyclers and other participants. The survey also found concerns over transparency, illegal dumping and disposal fees, with many motorists unsure what happens to their old tires after replacement. TSA said the results show that Australia’s voluntary approach is no longer enough to deliver the accountability, traceability and environmental outcomes consumers expect.

A Michigan road project has used more than 7,000 scrap tires in rubber-modified asphalt to pave a 0.8-mile section of Ellsworth Road in Pittsfield Township, later earning national recognition for green construction. The project was carried out in Washtenaw County through a partnership involving the Washtenaw County Road Commission, Michigan Technological University and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. Cadillac Asphalt paved the section between the bridge over I-94 and Carpenter Road using asphalt containing ground tire rubber. In June 2026, EGLE said the project received the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s 2025 Quality in Construction Award in the Green Category, recognizing its use of recycled tire materials in pavement and its contribution to sustainable infrastructure.
