UK’s Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) says it endorses the move by the Australian government to prohibit the export of most unprocessed end-of-life tires from December 2021. The only exception will be casings suitable for retreading or validated reuse. Peter Taylor OBE, Secretary General of the TRA has urged DEFRA Secretary of state George Eustice MP to closely study this change in Australian law and consider whether the UK should follow a similar path. He went on:

The German AZuR (Allianz Zukunft Reifen – “German Tyre Future”) – an organization engaging in the design of end-of-life tire management practices – has initiated a study on end-of-life tires in the country. From retreading to tire pyrolysis, the research by AZuR will examine at different components of end-of-life tire value chain, including tire collection and recycling. The goal is to discover the actual facts pertaining to the reality of waste tire management.

124 associations, representatives, universities, and companies in the tire recycling industry from across Europe support the AZuR Resolution for securing the future of used tire recycling. To ensure the future of environmentally responsible used tire recycling in Europe, the Alliance Future Tires (AZuR) has drafted a resolution directed at European policymakers. The widely recognized resolution calls for all tires used within the European Union to be recycled or repurposed within the EU.

According to the press release of SIGNUS – a Spanish end-of-life tire management authority – from July 2021, during 2020, the organization managed 150,228 tons of end-of-life tires which it turned into new useful products for different applications. Of the total amount of tires collected, about 12% went for reuse (second-use or retreading), 35.2% were for energy recovery and the remaining 52.8% was recycled in the different tire recycling plants in Spain. Among the main uses for the material obtained from the end-of-life tires in 2020, there are 21,660 tons for the installation of about 215 football fields, 14,637 tons for the construction of approximately 2,900 playgrounds and 2,202 tons that were used to pave some 200 kilometers of highways, among others.

It was agreed during the BVSe annual general meeting in September 2021 to form a Tire Recycling Association under the BVSe grouping. With Vice President and Chairman of the Association, Bernd Franken, committed to the industry's interests, this new professional association has a seat and a vote on the BVSe Committee.

The Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo 2019 that takes place in Panama will be held earlier than previously arranged – on June 26-28, after Panama’s new convention center, Amador, has failed to meet construction deadlines. Latin Expo Group L.L.C also warned that even though it was earlier advertised that the event is scheduled to take place simultaneously with the Latin Auto Parts Expo, these plans had been canceled with the latter being rescheduled for July 17-19. The Atlapa Convention Center will serve as a venue where the expo will be hosted.

In its latest press release, Spanish EPR agency TNU (Tratamiento Neumáticos Usados) explains that all the waste generated by a tire after its use, rubber, steel and fabric, are a rich source of material and energy resources since they can be reused. Currently, the depletion of natural raw materials and fossil fuels is forcing us to seek more sustainable solutions, and in this sense, the recycling of end-of-life tires has important advantages. There are numerous ways of recovering and transforming its components into innovative and sustainable uses, allowing to reduce the environmental impact, as is the case with these useful and safe brake pads for trucks.

Tyromer – a Canadian tire devulcanization company – announced that its recycled rubber material, produced via its environmentally sustainable, non-chemical extruder devulcanization of end-of-life tire rubber, is now used by Continental Tires. This is the result of a multi-year collaboration driven by the shared commitment of the two companies to circular economy in which end-of-life tire rubber is reused in the production of new tires. Tire-to-Tire recycling represents in many cases the most direct and energy efficient way to reuse what is still largely considered and treated as a waste.
