The European Rubber Journal (ERJ) reports that tire recycling is gaining a "remarkable traction" in the EU. Max Craipeau, the leader of the BIR says that tires and rubber have quickly developed into "one of the most dynamic divisions of the recycling business." According to Max Craipeau, who is also a head of Greencore Resources Ltd. in Hong Kong, the demand for recycled rubber is expected to grow five times in Europe over the next 25 years. Tires and rubber, often considered to be the "poor relation" of recycling, have suddenly emerged as "one of the most dynamic parts of the recycling industry," Craipeau stated at a meeting of the Bureau of International Recycling's (BIR) tires & rubber committee on May 31.

Contec S.A. – a Poland-based company that specializes in producing sustainable raw materials by upcycling end-of-life tires – reports that its team has visited Contec’s partner, TRS - Tyre Recycling Solutions SA – an innovative tire recycling company from Switzerland. During the visit, the companies have signed the Joint Development Agreement.

Tyre Recycling Solutions SA reports that a new project initiated by the Works Department of the city of Prilly (Switzerland) was carried out using TyreXol™ MMA – an activated recycled rubber powder with exceptional versatility – in the base and bearing layer. The asphalt was manufactured by the Famobit power plant (Bussigny) and installed by the Frutiger company.

According to TRS, not all rubber powders are created equal. TRS’s proprietary process starts with a highly specialized water-jet system that pulverizes tire tread into fine powder, free from steel and synthetic fibres.
