Continental tires with ContiRe.Tex-technology can now be ordered by dealers across Europe. The company's press release says the PremiumContact 6, EcoContact 6 and AllSeasonContact in five dimensions are each equipped with the sustainable ContiRe.Tex technology. Continental tires containing polyester made from recycled PET bottles are now available to all dealers in Europe. The company has brought the so-called ContiRe.Tex technology, which can completely replace the conventionally polyester in the tire carcass, into series production in April 2022.

Continental has taken on the role of fourth co-chair of the Tire Industry Project (TIP). With this step, the tire manufacturer is further emphasizing its comprehensive commitment to sustainability. Continental and Security Matters (SMX), an innovative tech platform specializing in digital tracking using unalterable chemical-based barcodes, have succeeded for the first time in verifying beyond doubt a marker substance for natural rubber in a tire, and thus throughout the entire production process. The dedicated marker technology, which both companies optimized for use in natural rubber, is designed to create greater transparency along the entire value chain of tires and technical rubber products from Continental. Provided with special security features, the use of the marker substances enables the invisible marking of natural rubber with information on its geographical origin.

On July 30, 2024, Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) and Continental signed a framework agreement for the long-term purchase of Pyrum’s recovered Carbon Black (rCB). The agreement covers the rCB purchase quantities for at least two Pyrum plants, with a term of ten years. Continental will also supply Pyrum with end-of-life tires. In addition, Continental has agreed to make an advance payment for future rCB deliveries.

Continental – a premium tire manufacturer – builds basketball court from recycled Extreme E tires. According to the company’s latest report, Continental donates 400 square meters of paving stones for youth basketball court in Hanover-Linden. "Turning racing tires into living space" - under this motto, a new basketball court is being built in Hanover to give children from the surrounding area a lively place to play, run and train. Continental is providing the necessary rubber paving stones as a donation. The paving stones are made from recycled racing tires from the Extreme E electric racing series, which Continental has been supporting as a founding partner since 2019.

Tire producer Continental A.G will start applying recovered carbon black (rCB) obtained via tire pyrolysis method and produced by German Pyrolyx A.G. after two companies have reached a five-year deal. According to the contract, Pyrolyx will be supplying some 10,000 metric tons of rCB annually to Continental’s facilities in numerous countries. This will help Pyrolyx to increase its sales and grow in North America and eastern Europe as additional plants will be commissioned as part of the agreement.

On September 6, 2021, Continental reported it is unveiling its innovative Conti GreenConcept tire concept at this year’s IAA MOBILITY. This conceptual study by the premium tire manufacturer leverages both current and emerging technological approaches to the engineering of sustainable tires for passenger cars, as yet another example of Continental’s wide-ranging activities in pursuit of sustainability. The goal of Continental’s integrative and sustainable concept: minimizing resource consumption across every link in the tire’s value chain. As such, the study addressed everything from the sourcing and procurement of raw materials on to the various stages of production and even on up to ways of extending the tire’s service life. Continental’s development engineers and materials experts rose to the occasion and found novel solutions to each of these three challenges. The result: a tire that consists of a particularly high percentage of traceable, renewable, and recycled materials, has an innovative, lightweight design that conserves valuable resources, and extended service life thanks to a renewable tread.

Continental’s ContiRe.Tex tire was chosen as the GALAP Product of the Year 2023 in the Tire category after competing against 38 other candidates. On Wednesday, December 14, the Award was presented at the Torre Glries in Barcelona. The use of recycled materials in tire manufacture was pioneered by ContiRe.Tex technology, which achieved an 8.2 out of 10 rating from a sample of about 100,000 users. With its ContiRe.Tex technology, which aims to make the manufacturing, use, and recyclability of its tires more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, Continental just got one step closer to the goal of tires made from 100% recycled or sustainable materials. ContiRe.Tex utilizes between 9 to 15 polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles per tire, depending on the tire size.
