With new European partners, Allianz Zukunft Reifen (AZuR) is gaining additional expertise in pioneering technological fields of the tire circular economy. Among AZuR’s new partners is now Weibold – tire recycling and pyrolysis consulting company from Austria. Beside this, AZuR-Network joined: The Bavarian CTS Bitumen is the technology leader in the rubber modification of bitumen for road construction.

The innovation forum "Scrap Tire Recycling" (AZuR) sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany recently published a large-scale study for its partners. The study is focused on the market positions and requirements of end-of-life tire recyclers and manufacturers of products from recycled tire rubber. The Tire Cologne 2022 is ready for its successful restart: the industry’s leading international event will provide crucial stimulus for the sector, as Koelnmesse, the organiser of The Tire Cologne, and the German Tyre Retail and Vulcanisation Trade Association (BRV), the event’s conceptual sponsor, emphasised at a digital press conference attended by more than sixty international trade journalists on 26 January 2022.

In the recently held Recircle Awards – the globally-facing industry award event recognizing sustainable innovation, production processes, management and services within the tire retreading and recycling sectors – a U.S. based manufacturer of tire recycling machinery outperformed European its competitors for international awards program that recognizes excellence in tire recycling. ECO Green Equipment develops advanced eco-friendly and cost-efficient turnkey tire recycling systems. They recently garnered international attention for sweeping the Best Tyre Recycling Industry Supplier Award at the global Recircle Awards. The company develops both stand-alone machinery and integrated equipment to turn end-of-life tires into valuable aftermarket products. Their tire shredders and grinders can convert tire rubber into fine rubber powder for innovative high-end products, playground surfaces, athletic fields, landscaping mulch, automotive parts and tire-derived fuel.

China’s Henan Province now has a tire recycling facility with an annual processing capacity of 100,000 tons of tires – it can recycle scrap tires and not pollute the environment – this move helps the Asian country reinforce the sustainable trends in economy. The new facility developed by Chinese tire-producer Doublestar Group and ten universities, with Southeast University leading the research, is located in Runan County and is aimed at fighting problems that come from environmental pollution as the Chinese tire recycling system, reportedly, has long been associated with pollution.

The third scientific AZuR Colloquium took place on October 10, 2024, on the Jülich campus of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences (FH Aachen) with high participation. Forty scientists from various universities, institutes, and disciplines came together to discuss current research findings and projects related to the sustainable reuse and recycling of end-of-life tires. The agenda included workshops, discussion panels, and keynote presentations on topics such as the pyrolytic utilization of end-of-life tire granulate, the use of old rubber granulates in flood protection, and the future of recovered carbon black (rCB) as a sustainable filler.

In total, over 9,000 votes were cast across the 18 awards categories that were open to the public vote, with significant engagement in the voting process being received from all corners of the globe.
