Bilfinger has been awarded with comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction management (EPCm) services for a groundbreaking tire recycling facility in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, by UK-based technology company Circtec. Utilizing Circtec's proprietary technology, their first commercial-scale plant will transform end-of-life tires into valuable resources, such as chemicals and biofuels, through pyrolysis.

Recycling companies warn that proposed EU regulations could result in the export of millions of tires for disposal or incineration. The European Recycling Industries' Confederation (EuRIC) charged that the European Commission's draft legislation, which would essentially ban the addition of rubber granules made from recycled tyres to AstroTurf sport fields, was in direct opposition to the Commission's own circular economy agenda.

Continental continues to step up its activities to ensure a circular economy. Recently, the tire manufacturer added recovered carbon black (rCB) to its newly produced Super Elastic solid tires at its tire plant in Korbach, Germany, thus reducing the use of fossil raw materials and CO2 emissions. Solid tires such as Continental’s SC20+ already contain around 60 percent renewable and recycled materials thanks to their high natural rubber content. By 2050 at the latest, Continental aims to use 100 percent sustainable materials in its tire products.

NE-TECH Group, a leading innovator in sustainable tire recycling technologies, proudly announces the completion of the pyrolysis section of its showcase facility designed in partnership with oil giant MOL as a main shareholder in the Karcag plant. This paves the way for the last phase of the project, the rCB finishing line, to be completed in collaboration with Hosokawa. On September 25, the European Commission has introduced a ban on crumb rubber infill, coinciding with the ban on intentionally added microplastics. This move addresses concerns about the use of crumb rubber in sports fields, which initially centered on the PAH content. Research revealed elevated PAH levels, even after reductions, prompting further investigation. The European Chemicals Agency's Risk Assessment Committee expanded the definition of microplastics to include any polymer under 5mm, encompassing most crumb rubber infill.

Kumtor Gold Company has officially launched a tire recycling plant in Tokmok, Chui region, marking what local reports describe as the first facility of its kind in Kyrgyzstan. The plant began operating in test mode in August 2023 and was formally inaugurated in September 2026, with President Sadyr Japarov joining the ceremony online. The project combines tire recycling and tire restoration in two separate workshops and is intended to reduce the amount of end-of-life tires sent to uncontrolled disposal while creating domestic outlets for recycled rubber. At full operation, the facility is expected to produce up to 6,000 tonnes of rubber crumb per year for applications including rubber tiles, mats and safety surfaces for sports and children’s playgrounds. The project represents a significant step in developing Kyrgyzstan’s tire recycling infrastructure and creating a more circular use of rubber resources.
