AIMPLAS and the European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) will host an international workshop dedicated to exploring how recycled plastics and rubber can support the clean energy transition — and how renewable energy technologies can contribute to more sustainable recycling systems.

During the two-day Workshop on Plastics, Rubber and Recycling on October 1-2, 2024, in Valencia, AIMPLAS and ETRA are going to provide an environment of collaboration, learning and networking among industry professionals. The first day will be marked by parallel sessions including project presentations, networking opportunities and lab visits.

On December 3, 2025, the SMILE CITY Urban Living Lab will host a hands-on workshop in Rome, Italy (CNR, Piazzale Aldo Moro 7), dedicated to designing and prototyping an off-grid photovoltaic (PV) e-bike charging station. The event will take place from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and is organised by the European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) and SMILE CITY partners, in cooperation with Rete Spazio Attivo Lazio Innova, the distributed FabLab of the Lazio Region.

On 26 September 2023 the EU Commission adopted the decision to ban the sale of polymeric materials for infill, starting from 15 October 2031. This decision is creating concerns among end users about possible limitation of the use of artificial fields. Prospective attendees are invited to register for European Tyre Recycling Association’s (ETRA) Conference that is set to take place at the NH Collection, Grand Sablon in Brussels. The conference is an annual three-day event that will take place for the 27th time. It will see plenary sessions and discussions paying special focus on pyrolysis and the future of it. The speakers will share their reports on how markets for recycled tire products will be expanded. Attendees will learn which recycled rubber products may see the greatest demand in the new decade.

One of the most colorful personalities in the tire recycling and pyrolysis world – Dr. Valerie Shulman – recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Shulman made an enormous contribution to our industry and we are very sad for our loss. We would like to express sincere condolences to Dr. Shulman’s family and remind to our audience about how Dr. Shulman was supporting and developing our industry. As a Secretary General of the European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) for over 30 years, for many Dr. Shulman was the face and voice of the Association. As Secretary General of ETRA, she helped defend interests of European tire recyclers in the highest offices in the European Commission, fighting for the future of the industry.

The potential of rubberized asphalt to enhance road durability and sustainability was a key topic at the recent Workshop on Rubberized Asphalt held in Rome on December 4-5. The event, organized by ETRA and ANAS, was supported by the EU-funded RE-PLAN CITY LIFE and LIFE SILENT projects.

In the frame of the 29th ETRA Conference on Tyre Recycling a lively workshop by RE-PLAN CITY LIFE project "Recycled materials and Public works: How to reduce the gap?" will be held on April 17, 2024. The workshop will illustrate the tools put in place by the project to stimulate a stronger engagement from the Public Authorities to adopt best practices and Green Procurement.
