According to Environmental Registry of Ontario, the province is reducing red tape for the tire, battery, electrical and electronic equipment, and hazardous and special products industries while ensuring that the environment and consumers are protected. Ontario's Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has amended the following producer responsibility regulations under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA):

UK’s Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) issued a statement where it reacted to the recent proposal by the European Chemical Agency to ban tyre-derived crumb rubber infill in the EU. A Dutch company Black Bear is ready to advance its tire recycling process transforming tires into carbon black, and it managed to receive additional funding of €5 million; the recent growth capital follows prior funding of €11million. The most recent sum became available thanks to a venture capital company from Belgium Capricorn Venture Partners and Particon that provides investment to innovators in tech. Following this investment, the overall financing has managed to reach €16 million.

Pyrum Innovations AG and its Greek partner, Thermo Lysi SA, have received full regulatory approval for the construction of a new pyrolysis-based tire recycling plant in Greece. With all necessary permits granted, the project is now considered “fully approved,” paving the way for the next phase of development.

Zeppelin Systems – the company that specializes in the design, construction, and technological upgrading of industrial plants – has secured the engineering contract for the construction of ReOil's second pyrolysis plant in Poland. Set to commence in February 2024, the large-scale facility, covering 27 acres, will have the capacity to recycle 60,000 tonnes of old tires annually.

As reported by RJA, a Spanish Royal Decree that will “accelerate the transition of the end-of-life tire sector towards a model of circular economy” had been approved by the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). The journal reports that, among other issues, the new law includes all tires over 1,400 mm in diameter and prohibits landfilling large end-of-life earthmover and agricultural tires, an issue that has been allowed until now. It also prioritizes the reuse of tires and further defines the conditions that both second-use tires and retreaded tires must meet for their subsequent sale.

UK-based tyre recycler Big Atom has formed an official partnership with Tyre Spot, a large independent tyre wholesaler in the Northeast of England. The agreement aims to improve the efficiency and compliance of used tyre disposal across Tyre Spot’s network.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) recently announced it was looking to an independent review to help shape its future. An independent review is designed to ensure product stewardship schemes continue to benefit the public. The review includes upwards of 50 interviews with government bodies, tire recyclers, processors, consumers and anyone involved in a particular scheme.  TSA CEO Lina Goodman describes it as a “hard-core report card” which outlines the scheme’s success and its failings. But it’s not a report that slaps you over the wrist and publicly shames you. If used correctly it can pivot the scheme to do better.
