TIP is the tire industry’s most important global forum for sustainability issues.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) reports about a landmark project where asphalt made using crumb rubber from used tyres was laid on a busy Melbourne road. The project was co-funded by Tyre Stewardship Australia and it has won the prestigious Sustainable Transport Infrastructure Award at the National Transport Research Awards. The demonstration project across a 1.4km section of East Boundary Road in Bentleigh East, Victoria is supported by the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) and the Victorian Department of Transport (DoT).

In its recent article, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) reports that it has mapped its 2020-2023 strategy against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). TSA’s mission to ensure the sustainable management, recycling and productive use of end of life tyres is now underpinned by 5 of these SDGs: SDG #8 – Decent work and economic growth

The partnership expanded Tana’s regional distribution network and enabled Hungarian customers to source TANA mobile waste shredders, landfill compactors and screening equipment through a locally established provider. These machines are widely used in waste treatment applications, including the pre-processing of end-of-life tyres for material recycling, rubber recovery and downstream technologies such as pyrolysis.

MOL and Tatneft, one of the largest oil and gas companies in Russia, have solemnly launched a joint project for a rubber bitumen plant in the Republic of Tatarstan. According to MOL, the project partly involves end-of-life recycling. The companies have also agreed to establish a joint venture that, besides manufacturing and selling rubber bitumen, will also be authorized to market MOL's technology license in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The investment is partly financed by the HEPA Hungarian Export Promotion Agency tender funding.

The research program has previously tested asphalt mixtures incorporating recycled tires, glass, and fiber materials in Dickinson County as part of ongoing pavement development projects.

According to Aliapur, the French tire collection and recovery sector has developed an established operating model over the past two decades, collecting approximately 500,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires annually while exceeding targets for reuse and recycling.
