News: Tire Recycling & Pyrolysis

According to Liberty Tire Recycling – one of the biggest tire recycling companies in the United States, – roads in Floyd County, Georgia, will soon be smoother and more environmentally friendly for drivers, thanks to a Georgia EPA grant for repaving with asphalt enhanced by Liberty Tire’s SmartMIX™. A short test-strip will be paved in spring 2024 before the county begins the full project. Once implemented, the rubberized asphalt will create safer, more resilient roadways.

Fredrik Emilson assumed the position as the new CEO of Enviro on February 1. As previously communicated, former CEO Thomas Sörensson moved to a role as senior advisor within the company. Fredrik Emilson has a long history at Höganäs AB where he was the company's CEO during the period 2017-2023. During his time at Höganäs, Fredrik also held the role of Head of Europe followed by beeing responsible for the Asian market.

The Circularity Gap Report 2024, released by the Circle Economy Foundation on January 24, 2024, underscores the pressing need for improved political, financial, and labor conditions to foster a worldwide circular economy. It not only identifies critical drivers but also offers concrete recommendations for policy, finance, and labor to expedite the transition toward a circular economy.

Ireland is set to broaden the scope of its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for tires, administered by Circol ELT, the entity overseeing Ireland’s tire compliance scheme with approval from the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications.

Tire Stewardship BC highlights that when it comes to commercial hauling operations, the two greatest expenses are fuel and tires. The medium trucks used for most major trucking fleets, such as waste management trucks, postal service vehicles, and public transportation, go through tires quickly, and the cost to replace those tires with new ones can be substantial.

Around 200,000 tons from Germany exported old tires per year are mainly used in the Middle East as fuel in cement works. Around 140,000 tons of CO 2 emissions are released. The Alliance for the Future of Tires (AZuR) is therefore calling on responsible federal and state politicians to immediately ban the unregulated incineration of German export tire waste in non-EU countries.

Liberty Tire Recycling recently published its ESG Report. Liberty says its ESG Zero Waste Goal requires digging deep to uncover every opportunity to increase circularity within our business model and the recycling industry.

Where the rubber hits the kerb: Australia's first recycled kerbs developed for the Pakenham Level Crossing Removal Project. Victoria's Big Build has partnered with Porous Lane and the University of Melbourne Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology to develop and trial Australia’s first recycled kerbs, with funding from Sustainability Victoria.
