JANUARY 2024: Global circularity must be doubled by 2032. The Circularity Gap Report 2024 reveals a decline in global circularity to 7.2%, emphasizing the urgent need for transformative action. Excessive material consumption drives environmental harm and inequality, with high-income nations disproportionately responsible. The report outlines 16 solutions across key sectors to reduce material use by 30% while improving well-being.

Yokohama Rubber has partnered with an international initiative titled "Utilization Technology of Rubber Seeds for Green Products to Mitigate Global Warming and Plastic Pollution." This groundbreaking project aims to leverage natural rubber seeds to address environmental challenges and improve economic conditions for agricultural workers.

Discarded tires are creating an environmental crisis in Tijuana, Baja California, as millions of used tires from the U.S. end up clogging the Tijuana River Channel. This dumping ground for trash and sewage is visible from aerial footage captured by the non-profit environmental group WILDCOAST. The Tijuana River Channel flows south of San Diego and empties into the Pacific Ocean, carrying a staggering number of discarded tires.

SIBUR, a leading Russian petrochemical company, is advancing its efforts to substitute natural rubber in tires with synthetic alternatives. The company is collaborating with tire manufacturers to finalize tests of experimental tires made using synthetic isoprene rubber, with results expected in 2025.

Launched in May 2022, the PERSEUS project focuses on creating innovative asphalt mixtures to reduce road traffic noise while incorporating recycled tire materials. The project, funded by CDTI, is led by CAMPEZO with contributions from ASFALTIA, MOEVE, and SIGNUS, and support from TECNALIA.
