Australia’s circular tyre economy expands into the next decade with more opportunities for investors, recyclers and manufacturers The new financial year marks 10 years of operation for Tyre Stewardship Australia and sees more rubber product recycling opportunities opening up across the country than ever before. Industry case studies show rubber product users and recyclers, in metro, regional, rural, and remote areas, are defying challenging economic times to gain value from tyre recycling.

As ever this years’ Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) event will focus on the key issues of the moment affecting all of us in the business of tyres, regulation and recycling. The challenges we face do not diminish so being ready to meet them is all important which is what this annual TRA event is all about.

Since 1992, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has awarded over 100 grants incorporating scrap tires into road construction, covering over 200 lane-miles. In 2024, an additional 70 lane-miles will be added. Kirsten Clemens, EGLE’s scrap tire coordinator, highlights the increasing use of scrap tires in these projects. By the end of 2024, EGLE grants will have funded over 300 miles of rubber-modified pavement in 32 communities. EGLE collaborates with Michigan Department of Transportation, universities, and tire associations to enhance paving and recycle tires.

After Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) commenced construction on the Uddevalla recycling plant in February 2024, the company recently shared updates on the progress. According to an article by Enviro, the building now has its first roof trusses installed, representing an important stage for the project and the parties EBC, Enviro Building Company, and TRU.
