According to The Drive’s press release, Michelin has developed an algorithm, called SmartWear, which can predict tire wear down to the millimeter by using data from existing sensors on the vehicle combined with environmental data. The algorithm was developed specifically for Michelin's tires, but the company hopes to make it brand-agnostic. With vehicles getting bigger and heavier, and electric cars wearing out tires more quickly, Michelin's technology is particularly useful for automakers.

According to CBC News, Ontario’s Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority (RPRA), which oversees recycling in the province, may soon impose fines of $200,000 or more on the province's tire manufacturers. According to the agency, the five companies in Ontario that collect and recycle end-of-life tires are all not in compliance with provincial legislation. The orders allege that throughout the province, the industry is not providing enough sites that collect used tires.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) and Antin Infrastructure Partners (Antin) announced to have established a joint venture (JV) in order to, based on Enviro's technology, create a large-scale tire recycling group. The JV plans to establish plants across Europe with a total capacity of up to one million tons of end-of-life tires recycled annually by 2030. The JV partners have agreed on a plan for the financing of the new plant expansion. Antin, a leading private equity firm focused on infrastructure, will finance the initial investments.

During Tire Technology Expo 2023, which takes place from March 21-23 in Hannover, Germany, Michelin won two international awards, bestowed by a panel of experts from the tire industry, the academic world, and the press: • The Tire Manufacturer of the Year award, won for the sixth time, an absolute record. • The Environmental Achievement of the Year- Tire Design award, for the first two tires approved for road use (cars and buses) that include 45% and 58% sustainable materials respectively. Michelin, a leader in sustainability and innovation, today announced a $300 million CAD investment into its Canadian operations to accelerate sustainable mobility and improve its environmental footprint. The investment, part of Michelin’s global growth strategy, will see the installation of new technologies and equipment in Michelin’s three Nova Scotia production facilities to respond to market evolution. This includes manufacturing tires for the growing electric vehicle (EV) segment; larger rim size tires for passenger and light truck vehicles; as well as improved fuel efficiency for commercial trucks. In addition, the electrification of key parts of the manufacturing process will reduce carbon emissions at the plants.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) has made a significant breakthrough in its expansion plans, with the Homburg City Council voting unanimously to approve the sale of a city-owned property to the eco-friendly end-of-life tyre (ELT) recycling company. The land sale allows Pyrum to construct a new pyrolysis plant in Saarland, which will have three pyrolysis reactors and a processing capacity of roughly 20,000 tonnes of ELT each year. The company is due to sign the contract to secure the land soon, allowing the planning and approval process to begin immediately. The new plant will be a valuable addition to Pyrum's existing operations, which include a main plant in Dillingen. Like the Dillingen plant, the Homburg facility will utilize Pyrum's patented pyrolysis technology, which allows the company to recycle ELT sustainably. With support from the city of Homburg, Pyrum is committed to building a bridge to a circular economy that enriches the tradition-steeped automotive location with end-of-life tyre recycling.
