Maris Corp. – an Italian innovator in the field of end-of-life tire rubber devulcanization – reports that the use of devulcanized rubber produced with its patented process and mixed with virgin rubber allows reducing the environmental impact of CO₂ and the consumption of fossil resources. Recently, Maris team – Bruno Muscato and Marco Girotto – collaborating with colleagues from the University of Turin published an article on this matter in Science Direct's Journal of Cleaner Production. The article is headlined as “Environmental assessment of rubber recycling through an innovative thermo-mechanical devulcanization process using a co-rotating twin-screw extruder.”

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is an international non-profit association representing all segments of the tire industry, including those that manufacture, repair, recycle, sell, service or use new or retreaded tires, and also those suppliers or individuals who furnish equipment, material or services to the industry. The mission of TIA is to promote tire safety through training and education, to act as the principal advocate in government affairs and to enhance the image and professionalism of the industry so that our member businesses may be more successful. TIA has more than 13,000 members from all 50 states and around the globe.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has received approval as an intermediate for its pyrolysis oil according to the EU chemicals regulation, REACH and therefore will now execute the previously announced order for pyrolysis oil worth MSEK 2 to a leading US oil company. The approval that has now been received means that Enviro can sell up to 1,000 tons of pyrolysis oil per year. In order to support broad commercialization of its oil and the company’s expansion plan, Enviro will immediately apply for REACH approval for the sale of unlimited volumes.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) – a Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment manufacturer – has been granted an environmental permit for the planned tire pyrolysis plant in Uddevalla, Sweden. As previously announced by Enviro, the application pertained to the establishment of a tire pyrolysis plant on an industrial site in the Lillesjö district of Uddevalla Municipality. The facility will have the capacity to process up to 60,000 tons per year, which would suffice for the recycling of more than 60 percent of Sweden’s total annual volume of end-of-life tires. The environmental permit application for the facility was filed in mid-November of last year.

The EU's decision to no longer let banned flame retardant chemicals to enter recycling streams and new products is applauded by environmental health groups. The European Union (EU) has taken a significant step toward improving recycling by outlawing the recycling of items that contain PBDEs, a group of hazardous flame retardants that are prohibited everywhere.
