SDAB – a Swedish tire recycling organization – decided to go its own way and create one of the world’s leading recycling organizations. Thus, SDAB reports that on January 1, 2023, Swedish Tire Recycling will change its model and will be responsible for the Swedish tire recycling system under its own auspices. The organization therefore terminates a long-term agreement with the contractor Ragn-Sells. SDAB’s CEO Fredrik Ardefors says that the new model gives the company an entirely different opportunity to work actively to increase the benefit to society and at the same time reduce the impact on the environment.

A subsidiary of the prominent automotive manufacturer Audi – The Audi Environmental Foundation – has started working with Technical University of Berlin to filter our tire wear particles containing microplastics and other substances which, reportedly, harm the environment. In its press release, Audi writes: “The Audi Environmental Foundation is involved in several projects to protect bodies of water. In the URBANFILTER project, Audi is developing optimized sediment filters for urban runoff in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin. They trap microplastics in tire wear and other pollutant particles before they are flushed into sewers and waterways along with rainwater. A modular system consisting of nine different filter modules ensures that they achieve the best filtration results across a wide range of road and traffic conditions. Intelligently connecting data from various sources ensures that the filters are serviced and cleaned at the right time.”

The webinar series by EuRIC connects the dots between EU decision-makers and recyclers to discuss the building blocks required to speed up the transition towards a more circular economy and achieve Europe's climate neutral agenda.

Carbon Black World is a global conference focused on the carbon black industry, its technology advances, business aspects and more. This year, the conference will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina (US) on September 13-14. Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) – a tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator based in Sweden – and its partner Michelin – one of the global leaders in tire manufacturing – have presented another sustainable racing tire based on recovered carbon black from Scandinavian Enviro Systems. The new tire is a high-performance tire developed for racing cars and was recently presented at Michelin’s Movin’On global sustainable summit. According to Enviro, the new tire contains 46 percent renewable and recovered material, including recovered carbon black delivered by Enviro to Michelin. Michelin presented the new high-performance tire mounted on the electric-hydrogen, long-distance racing car, GreenGT Mission H24. Earlier this spring, Michelin also presented a sustainable racing tire for MotoE, a racing series for electric motorcycles, which also contained recovered carbon black from Enviro. Michelin has announced the goal that all its tires will be manufactured entirely from sustainable material by 2050.

Ecopneus – an Italian end-of-life tire management authority – reports that the series of meetings will be held from May to October 2021 involvin Ecopneus itself, UISP with the collaboration of Fieracavalli together with important Italian universities to talk about the realities of excellence in the world of sustainable equitation thanks also to recycled rubber. Scientific research, sport, animal welfare and circular economy was presented online at Cavalli On Live, the online format dedicated to the well-being of horses and riders that will start on May 24, 2021 organized by Ecopneus and UISP - “Unione Italiana Sport Per tutti” in collaboration with Fieracavalli to illustrate the potential of recycled rubber in end-of-life tires for horse riding.

In a recent press release by Birla Carbon – one of the leaders and innovators in the carbon black industry worldwide – the company announced a partnership for sustainability with Circtec – an end-of-life tire pyrolysis operator focused on production of renewable fuels and recovered carbon black. According to the press release: Circtec will become the largest producer of Sustainable Carbonaceous Materials Birla Carbon to deliver Sustainable Carbonaceous Materials to customers through its extensive product development capabilities Partnership to create the single largest source of Sustainable Carbonaceous Materials for the tire, mechanical rubber goods, and plastic industries

On April 28, 2021, EFG Polymers – a manufacturer of engineered elastomers from the United States – announced that it became completely sustainable. EFG Polymers, a resource recovery company, announces today that it has achieved over 100% sustainability by re-engineering rubber waste and producing new valuable elastomers with no emissions, waste, or by-products. Reusing thermoset rubber waste and returning the resources to new rubber products reduces the collective dependence on virgin resources and can assist the vital rubber industry in improving its sustainability.
