Dickinson County Road Commission has worked with Michigan Technological University and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy on research projects involving ground tire rubber modified asphalt since 2018. Officials said this work has helped the Road Commission build practical experience with the material and better understand how it performs in local road conditions.

The research program has previously tested asphalt mixtures incorporating recycled tires, glass, and fiber materials in Dickinson County as part of ongoing pavement development projects.

Michigan has halted the long-standing practice of burning scrap tires for energy, following a 2023 change in state law that removed tire-derived fuel from the list of renewable energy sources. A Turkey-based company Hatko – manufacturer of noise barriers from recycled end-of-life tire rubber – reports it has become a part of "The longest mid-span suspension bridge in the world project". Now, Hatko’s noise barriers from recycled tire rubber are used in the 1915 Çanakkale Brige Project. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway Project is a large-scale development project for Turkey’s transportation and infrastructure. Reportedly, the bridge will cut down the crossing of the Çanakkale Strait to six minutes but the project itself will be making a sizable contribution to the country's economy.

Ecopneus – Italy’s end-of-life tire management authority responsible for tire collection and recycling – reports that the use of crumb rubber modified asphalt is growing in the country. In 2020, Italy used 63% more end-of-life tires to pave its roads. Speaking about benefits of rubberized asphalt, Ecopneus says it resists potholes, lasts 3 times longer than traditional asphalt, reduces noise and maintenance costs and helps utilize valuable commodity – tire-derived crumb rubber – that otherwise would often end up in landfills.

Wei Jianhuan, director of the infrastructure office of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area commented on the road construction saying that rubber asphalt roads on average show greater durability in comparison with conventional paving which requires repairs every 3 to 5 years. They also result in significant traffic noise reduction.

A Turkish company Hatko reports about its innovative sound barriers made from recycled tire rubber that allow local communities in Turkey to reach a higher-quality living standards. Hatko’s sound barriers made from tire-derived crumb rubber decrease traffic noise, even at its maximum levels, in residential areas near highways with high vehicle traffic, or near intercity railways and tram routes, double roads, etc. This enables to increase the life quality of life for residents in the vicinity of such routes, providing calm and peaceful atmosphere for living.

The K show in Germany city of Düsseldorf set October 16-23 will see Evonik Industries AG exhibit its patented rubber additive, Vestenamer, that allows transforming waste tires into products that can be applied to construct roads. The company’s additive makes the process of transforming waste tires into rubber powder that can be used in asphalt cost-efficient; this Evonik’s innovation is used in combination with road construction asphalt as it can improve the quality, thus extending the life of roads and boosting their durability preventing wearing off.
