A trial organised by Transport for Victoria saw the introduction of OLEXOCRUMB®, the most recent product innovation from Puma Energy’s Global Bitumen Technology Centre in Altona, Victoria (Australia). The new asphalt binder was trialled in close collaboration with Boral Asphalt, as part of the Boral/Puma technology program. The company reports that OLEXOCRUMB® was specifically formulated to comply with existing Australian roads polymer modified binders (PMB) specifications.

In late December 2020, Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment manufacturer Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) reported about updates to its long-term collaboration agreement with Michelin. According to the press release, as part of the strategic partnership negotiations, Enviro and the French global tire manufacturer Michelin have agreed on the principle terms for establishing the first jointly owned recycling plant and a license agreement regulating the terms of use for Enviro’s tire recycling (pyrolysis) technology as well as subsequent compensation. The agreement is subject to the approval of Enviro’s owners at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and the closing will be done after the EGM. Continental is breaking new ground in the development of sustainable material solutions: For the second time this year, the Hanover-based technology company has joined forces with the Berlin-based innovation network for advanced materials (INAM) to launch the Continental Challenge for start-ups and university institutes. Continental’s advanced materials and innovation experts hope to generate new ideas for the production and recycling of rubber and plastic products. The challenge is one of the numerous initiatives launched by the company as part of its sustainability roadmap in its anniversary year 2021.

Ecolomondo Corporation (TSXV: ECM) (OTC: ECLMF) (the “Company” or “Ecolomondo”), a cleantech company specializing in the commercialization of its Thermal Decomposition Process (TDP) proprietary recycling technology and the global deployment of TDP turnkey facilities, has concluded the final documentation to the previously announced $3 million loan with Export Development Canada (EDC).

Partnership will accelerate the development of sustainable synthetic rubber tire formulations, through increased use of recycled tire rubber. Trinseo (NYSE: TSE), a global materials solutions provider and manufacturer of plastics, latex binders and synthetic rubber, has reached definitive agreements with Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) on a commercial collaboration and an equity investment in TRS. The transaction is expected to close later this quarter, subject to ordinary closing conditions.

In Continental’s recent press release, the tire manufacturer made a very positive announcement related to sustainability. Now that Claus Petschick heads new Sustainability department, sustainable management is expected to become an integral part of Continental’s “Vision 2030” strategy program. Besides, the company will continue engaging in consistent research and development of new technologies, alternative materials and environmentally friendly production processes in the tire sector.

The Renewable Transport Fuel Association of the UK (RTFA) reports that its thirteen members and Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) of the UK have built a collaboration to promote greater uptake of pyrolysis, an advanced chemical recycling technology. To achieve this, they are funding a consultancy to contribute to the Environment Agency’s review of recovery options for end-of-life tires. Specifically, the group is seeking to demonstrate that pyrolysis is a sufficiently thorough and environmentally-safe process, and that the products should be classified as resources, not waste.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) – a Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment supplier – will publish the notification of the Extraordinary General Meeting that is to be held to approve the three definitive agreements that form the basis of the strategic partnership with Michelin. The notification contains more detailed information on the agreements regarding, for example, guarantee commitments and Michelin’s right to use Enviro’s pyrolysis technology, which Enviro wants to bring to the attention of shareholders and the capital market through the press release.

Novel asphalt additive for better, safer and environment-friendly roads has been developed by an EU-funded project Silent Rubber Pavements. The pavement industry faces different challenges in realizing more silent and eco-friendly pavements that need less maintenance. Crumb rubber, a granulated material obtained from scrap tires or other rubber goods, is a promising solution held back by several barriers.
