The University of Botswana (UB) in collaboration with local company Sky Scene unveiled rubber pavers made from recycled tires in Gaborone, as reported by XinhuaNet, a Chinese online magazine. Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, David Norris, UB Vice Chancellor, said he was very delighted that the partnership had led to finding solutions to real problems faced by the communities, industries and government. "The objective of the end-of-life tire recycling project is to reduce the accumulation of end-of-life tires by turning them into multiple useful products with profits," said Norris.

According to the recent announcement by the authority, the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) issued $2.2 million in grants to seven companies in the state under its Tire Incentive Program to supports recyclers’ efforts to manufacture products from waste tires.

Turkey’s capital, Ankara, will get the biggest tire recycling plant in the state amid growth of demand for recycled rubber materials. Turkey-based firm AKO Group is in charge of the facility’s operations and seeks to cut Turkey’s reliance on imported materials in strategic segments, Erkal Ozurun of AKO said. Global non-profit organization, Soles4Souls Asia, Ltd (Sole4Souls Asia) and PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia (Bridgestone Indonesia), a group company of Bridgestone Corporation, one of the world’s largest tire and rubber companies, announced a new 2 year partnership (2020 – 2022) for an exciting sustainable project to create new shoes out of recycled end-of-life tires. The partnership will be set in motion on June 5 in celebration of World Environment Day, serving as an important reminder for the world to address pressing environmental concerns and work collectively toward a sustainable society.

Azerbaijani authorities will now seek investors from abroad to carry out recycling initiatives, including scrap tire recycling. This is expected to boost the national recycling sector. On March 12, ADA University has hosted a special event dedicated to the recycling plant project in Balakhani Industrial Park; the university has teamed up with the managing company Tamiz Shahar OJSC, and this step was endorsed by its chairman Etibar Abbasov.
