Genan has announced today that its plant in Ovar, Portugal, has achieved the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) certification. The RCS is a standard that plays a significant role in the process chains by effectively tracking recycled raw materials within the supply chain, in accordance with the Content Claim Standard requirements. This certificate is a proof of both product quality as well as Genan’s commitment to sustainability.

Recently published by Spain's Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge Order1522/2021 defines end-of-waste criteria for recycled rubber from end-of-life tires, opening up new market options for these materials.

British company Protyre agreed to conduct clearance of thousands of scrap tires that were illegally stockpiling at the Brockdale nature reserve near Pontefract. The firm started the clear up last month. Irresponsible traders left most of the tires. Protyre volunteered after it noticed the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s post urging public to help remove scrap tires as the charity didn’t have substantial funds and time to do that.

An Italian product designer Paolo Gentile has embraced the not-so-common application for recycled scrap tires recently. He decided to create skateboards that contain rubber obtained from waste tires. Gentile, who is a recent graduate of Milan-based Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, branded his sustainable skateboard business ‘Frammento’.

This strategic partnership enhances Ecore's position in the collecting of tires and buffings while assisting in the sourcing of raw materials for the business's cutting-edge flooring and surfacing solutions. Additionally, it positions Ecore and 360 Tire Recycling Group as pioneers in the global transition to a circular rubber economy. “360 Tire’s commitment to providing an environmentally responsible, one-stop recycling effort for its customers aligns perfectly with Ecore’s vision of a planet free of rubber waste,” said Art Dodge, CEO of Ecore.

British Columbia's ocean cleanup workers, as they’re deconstructing what they are calling "tire island", are trying to determine how more than 2,000 end-of-life tires ended up on a remote Nelson Island (the Sunshine Coast of Canada) and why they were kept there for decades. They were discovered by an environmental project that was looking for areas that needed to be cleaned up, yet no one knows how they got to the island. The Ocean Legacy Foundation with Let's Talk Trash, Tire Stewardship BC, and Liberty Tire Recycling joined together to remove the tires from the island.

Ecopneus – Italian end-of-life tire management and recycling authority – says that thanks to the end-of-life tire recycling, over the years a real city of recycled rubber has been created at the Festambiente Festival: sports fields, cycle paths, play areas, urban furniture, relaxation areas were developed from the recycled material. In 2020 this list is supposed to be expanded with thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), Ecopneus says. Recycled rubber is confirmed as the protagonist of entertainment at Festambiente (Rispescia, Grosseto, 19 - 23 August), the festival which has reached its 32nd edition this year.

Van Dyck, affiliated with the tire recycler Mathe Group, has achieved Global GreenTag certification for its rubber flooring products, marking a milestone in sustainable manufacturing. The certification is particularly significant given Van Dyck's connection to the tire recycling industry, as the company produces rubber flooring from recycled materials, including those derived from end-of-life tires.

According to the press release of SIGNUS – a Spanish end-of-life tire management authority – from July 2021, during 2020, the organization managed 150,228 tons of end-of-life tires which it turned into new useful products for different applications. Of the total amount of tires collected, about 12% went for reuse (second-use or retreading), 35.2% were for energy recovery and the remaining 52.8% was recycled in the different tire recycling plants in Spain. Among the main uses for the material obtained from the end-of-life tires in 2020, there are 21,660 tons for the installation of about 215 football fields, 14,637 tons for the construction of approximately 2,900 playgrounds and 2,202 tons that were used to pave some 200 kilometers of highways, among others.
