GRI Specialty Tires recently announced that its new tire model “Ultimate Green XT” became “one of the most environmentally friendly solid tires in the world.” The manufacturer says the new product is a premium-plus solid tire that goes beyond the norm to provide the ultimate in performance, sustainability, and efficiency. Powerful and robust, this tire epitomizes GRI's advanced engineering, research, development and manufacturing capabilities. The company said the tire contains 42.8% sustainable materials, which include bio-sourced and recycled materials. The tire is built with natural rubber silica, recovered carbon black and reclaimed rubber from end-of-life tires.

Due to the global pandemic caused by the outbreak of Covid-19, the tire pyrolysis industry has diverse opinions about the fate of recovered carbon black (rCB) produced by pyrolysis plants. As rCB business largely depends on market dynamics of the virgin carbon black, one needs to analyze the carbon black industry to forecast rCB business opportunities. In this article, we would like to reassure our industry members engaged in pyrolysis and rCB production that despite disastrous impact of Covid-19, there are strong signs of recovery. Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum) – a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tires based on its pyrolysis technology – has started test operation of its new pelletiser at its plant site in Dillingen. The pelletiser enables the recovered carbon black (rCB) obtained by means of the pyrolysis process to be bonded into pellets, which increases the transportability as well as facilitates the further processing of the raw material.

One year after bicycle tyre manufacturer Schwalbe introduced the world’s first circular tyre using the Pyrum rCB, the use of rCBs in tyre production is being massively expanded. From now on, 70% of all Schwalbe tyres will be made of Pyrum rCB. Pyrum takes over the recycling of the tyres in the recycling system. The recovered carbon black is returned to Schwalbe to produce new bicycle tyres. The rCB replaces 100% of fossil carbon black in the production of new bicycle tyres without compromising on quality and at the same time saves 80% CO₂ equivalent. Thanks to the wide range of possible applications, rCB is now also used in Schwalbe’s high-end tyres for road, gravel and mountain bikes as well as in city and cargo bikes.

A Dutch company Black Bear is ready to advance its tire recycling process transforming tires into carbon black, and it managed to receive additional funding of €5 million; the recent growth capital follows prior funding of €11million. The most recent sum became available thanks to a venture capital company from Belgium Capricorn Venture Partners and Particon that provides investment to innovators in tech. Following this investment, the overall financing has managed to reach €16 million.

British Plastics Federation recently released an article about Waverly Carbon's sustainable recovered carbon black (rCB) and how it could be used in manufacturing process.
