Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) invites tire recycling industry stakeholders to join the ecologiQ Greener Infrastructure Conference on 6-7 September 2022 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Tyre Stewardship Australia says the ecologiQ will serve as a platform where the industry comes together to drive circular change in transport infrastructure. According to TSA, the two-day conference will deliver an unrivalled program featuring diverse industry leaders, a dynamic trade hall full of suppliers of recycled and reused products, networking events and site tours.

Having maintained a longstanding partnership with Marangoni, Volánbusz Hungary has effectively managed their retreading facility located in Győr, positioned between Budapest and Vienna. In the 90s, the plant was equipped with a Multifunctional machine, later upgraded to the Ringtreader 1000 model.

Enrestec – Taiwan’s leader in end-of-life tire pyrolysis technology – and Eco Infinic – Thailand’s manufacturer of synthetic oil and carbon black from used tires – officially completed the signing of the "Phase II Engineering Equipment Sale and Purchase Contract" for the end-of-life tire pyrolysis system.

Tire Stewardship BC – a not-for-profit group dedicated to the collection and recycling of scrap tires in British Columbia – announced that it will provide an annual grant of $30,000 to Ocean Legacy Foundation (OLF) for a period of five years. Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group announced it has received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification verifying that its mining tire recycling facility in Chile processes circular feedstocks. At Kal Tire’s facility in Northern Chile, end-of-life ultra-class tires are converted to their base elements (carbon black, oil and steel) so they can be reused in new products instead of raw materials. The facility’s thermal conversion processes uses heat and friction to induce a process that sees virtually 100% of the tire reused.

As millions of bicycle tires are disposed of every year around the world, some companies are becoming more conscious about how sustainable they are. BikeBiz magazine reports that Gecko – a British manufacturer of bicycle tires – has patented a new lightweight expanded, cellular rubber technology, where old tires can be returned, recycled and used in the manufacture of new bicycle tires – with potentially up to 30% of the new tire composed of recycled material. In fact, an independent life cycle assessment analysis of the Gecko tire showed that it would be at least 70% less damaging to the environment compared to an equivalent pneumatic bicycle tire. “I set up my own company about 16 years ago to develop an expanded, cellular rubber technology, with the aim of using it in tires,” says Gecko’s Richard Adams. “You’d often find bicycles in sheds and garages with flat or cracked tires not being used. We thought the answer to that would be a solid tire.
