The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) and the All India Rubber & Tyre Recyclers Association (AIRTRA), the two major players in the Indian tire industry, have been in preliminary discussions to establish a reverse collection mechanism and recycle end-of-life tires in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the EPR Policy introduced by the Indian government. “Concerning the Extended Producer Responsibility introduced by the Ministry of Environment & Forest for Scrap tyres in India, the two principal stakeholders, ATMA & AIRTRA, met recently to understand the recycling segment to develop a smooth implementation. Producers committed to facilitating a reverse collection mechanism and recycling of end-of-life, post-consumer waste,” stated Chetan Joshi. President, AIRTRA.

Titan International, Inc. and United Steelworkers (USW) called for restrictions on downstream products made from Russian petroleum inputs, citing in particular concerns over imports of off-the-road (OTR) tires from India. Paul Reitz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Titan International, stated, "Imports of Indian OTR tires increased by close to 38% in 2022 compared to 2021. India was not among the nations to ban imports of Russian oil products, including the production of the by-product, carbon black, which is a key ingredient the production of OTR tries. It is vital to our industry that we intensify our efforts to bring light to and close loopholes in the issued sanctions to Russia."

The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) has issued a warning to vehicle dismantlers and tire retailers in the UK that recovery costs may significantly go up, and even double in the nearest time. The changes may take place within weeks. The price increase is likely to target European states and South East Asian countries. The increase of costs can be influenced by steps taken by environmental authorities in India – they have been introducing more strict laws aimed at end-of-life tire recycling and other waste recovery practices that take place in unsanctioned premises.

On May 21, 2024, UK-based ReTyre Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Rubber Materials Research Institute (IRMRI), under the Indian Ministry of Commerce. This agreement involves ReTyre-Bharat Pvt. Ltd, ReTyre’s Indian division. The MOU focuses on technological research, product development, and mutual knowledge exchange. Mr. Shravan Bansal, Founder of ReTyre Ltd, stated: “With this MOU, ReTyre has taken a leap forwards in the strategic development of the company and its technology.” The collaboration with Siemens will support the introduction of their “recycling at source” technology in the tire recycling sector.

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) is organizing its 13th Annual Rubber Conference, Opening Session of 45th ANRPC Assembly and 6th ANRPC Public-Private Meet at Radisson Blu Hotel, Guwahati, India on 9 and 10 October 2023 (Monday and Tuesday). This event is hosted by the Rubber Board of India, Government of India.
