Kal Tire’s Carbon Calculator quantifies environmental savings when retreading OTR and mining tires that reached their end-of-life stage. The Maple Program uses data from Kal Tire’s new carbon calculator to award customers with one to five stars according to the percentage of their fleet running retreads rather than new tires. The patented Eagle Punch Cutter II is portable and designed to split Off the Road (OTR) tires into two halves, cutting through the center of the tread. It can handle a range of tire sizes, from a rim size of 39 inches and a tread width of 37 inches up to, and including, rim size of 63 inches and tread width of 70 inches. A blade is used to punch the tire while a programmable logic controller (PLC) controls the rotation of the tire and the punching process, allowing the operator to set the machine, press the start button, and let it run.

ECO Green’s recent press release reports that Prime Inc., a Missouri-based trucking company, had been devoted to retreading their used tires. The company discovered that 20% of end-of-life tires couldn’t be retreaded, and those tires — all 100,000 per year — were ending its lifecycle at landfills. Alejandro Grases and Ricardo Ayala recently joined ECO Green Equipment as sales representatives and from now on represent the European branch of the company. With over 10 years of experience in the tire recycling industry, Alejandro was a tire recycling plant director at American Tire Recycling in the city of Miami from 2011 till 2018. Part of his duty as the tire recycling plant director, Alejandro handled equipment installation and plant design, sometimes altering characteristics of the machinery.

Novum Energy Australia managing director Rowan Kendall said the company’s target was to process 19,000 tons of rubber per annum. This would produce approximately nine million liters of fuel oil, 4500 ton of recycled carbon black, 2500 tons of waste steel and excess syngas for electricity generation. According to Kendall, this was an effective way to ensure used tires were being reclaimed in a safe and sustainable manner.

As circular economy concept and tire recycling are becoming more popular all over the world, the first issue that may arise is the need to secure the raw material, namely end-of-life tires (ELT). Normally, tire recycling companies source their feedstock from collection programs or directly from tire stockpiles. Local ELT stockpiles in developing countries eventually may have limited supplies, because if ELT regulations were not in place before, tires may have been simply landfilled or burnt.

According to the manufacturer, the line is capable of coloring up to 10,000 lbs (4,500 kg) of input material per hour. ECO Green pinpoints that the line is designed to color a wide range of material sizes from 10-20 mesh rubber granules, to 1-inch chunks and rubber buffings. The manufacturer asserts that this system proves to be by far the most versatile and effective coloring line on the market.
