Ecopneus has received the Technological Innovation award at the 20th edition of the Premio ASI Sport & Cultura, held on 20 December 2025 at the Salone d’Onore of CONI in Rome. The award recognises Ecopneus’ long-term work in developing and promoting recycled rubber applications across sports, urban infrastructure and other public uses.

Alcoa Australia has started delivering used conveyor belts from its mining operations to Tyrecycle’s recycling facility in East Rockingham, Western Australia. The first reel arrived on 24 September, marking a new step in the partnership between the two companies. At the facility, steel wire from the belts will be reclaimed and the rubber processed into crumb for use in applications such as road construction.

Mathe Group, a South African radial truck tyre recycler, has announced a multi-million-rand investment in advanced equipment to recover high-quality “clean steel” from end-of-life tyres. The new systems include a steel cleaning mill with automated packaging and several state-of-the-art de-beading machines, designed to increase efficiency, improve product quality, and expand export potential.

In 2024, SIGNUS managed a total of 222,406 tonnes of end-of-life tires (ELTs). Based on an average passenger tire weight of 8.1 kg, this equates to approximately 27,337,351 tires — enough to construct around 1,139 racetracks the size of the Jerez Circuit. Of the total volume collected, 12.5% was prepared for reuse as second-hand or retreaded tires. Nearly half (48.5%) was recycled into products for various applications, while the remaining 39% was used for energy recovery, mainly as a substitute for fossil fuels.

Austria generates around 70,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires each year. Approximately half of this volume is now materially recovered. A central role in this effort is played by KIAS Recycling GmbH in Ohlsdorf, Upper Austria, which operates the country’s only facility dedicated to material tire recycling. As a partner in the AZuR network, KIAS processes up to 30,000 tonnes of used tires annually from both Austria and neighboring regions.

New Zealand is calling on innovators, investors, and entrepreneurs to help drive circular solutions for tyre recycling, as the country launches a major funding initiative to develop markets for tyre-derived recycled rubber. With millions of end-of-life tyres generated annually, this effort aims to unlock economic value from used tyres and support the transition to a more sustainable, circular economy.

In Richmond, British Columbia, a renewed playground in Steveston Park highlights how recycled tires can create safer, more inclusive community spaces. As part of the 2024 TSBC Community Grant Program, the project features durable, slip-resistant rubber surfacing made from nearly 3,000 locally recycled car tires. This innovative use of tire-derived material enhances safety, reduces maintenance needs, and supports local recycling initiatives.
