Tons of waste tires thrown on the streets of Manaus (AM) and on the outskirts of the city, already in the Amazon Forest area – accumulating standing water and serving as a breeding ground for the Aedes aegypti mosquito – will be collected and transported by containers to a recycling plant located in the Metropolitan Region. from Curitiba (PR).

Traxion Materials will expand its tire shredding and recycling operations in Campbell County, Tennessee, through an ongoing project that includes more than $5 million in investment and 49 new jobs in Jacksboro. The expansion was announced by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Deputy Gov. and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and company officials. Traxion Materials already operates infrastructure covering structured tire collection, wholesale tire distribution, tire shredding and processing, and tire-derived fuel supply. The project is expected to increase the company’s recycling and upcycling activities, strengthen its regional footprint and support the continued movement of used tires into productive second-life applications rather than landfills or stockpiles.

According to Bandvulc’s latest information, their newly introduced zero-to-landfill policy ensures that no production waste goes to landfill and, as a result, 100% of the company’s waste is recycled. Even rubber dust buffed off during the preparation process is recycled back into new tires.

Several Ontario municipalities are limiting or stopping the acceptance of used tires at waste depots as tire stockpiles continue to grow and collection services fail to keep pace. The backlog has affected communities including Chatham-Kent, Wellington County, South Huron and the Region of Durham, where used tires are accumulating at municipal depots and creating operational, environmental and fire safety concerns. The situation has renewed scrutiny of Ontario’s tire recycling system, including the role of producer responsibility organizations, provincial recycling targets and proposed regulatory changes intended to improve the collection and management of end-of-life tires.

Prior to the conflict, tire recycling was not a major focus in Ukraine, with just 10% of the 180,000-200,000 tons of end-of-life tires recycled each year. According to German surveys, until recently, the vast majority of all Ukrainian garbage was delivered to landfills.

Qatar’s daily newspaper The Peninsula reports that as the Ministry of Municipality and Environment of Qatar (MME) is set to organize the 1st International Waste Management Conference, Qatar is making steady progress in recycling waste, including end-of-life tires, to achieve its environment protection goals. According to the newspaper, in 2020 alone, 434,000 tons of construction materials were produced by recycling construction waste. According to information shared by the MME on its official social media accounts, 482,402 tires were also processed in 2020.

The Tire Recycling Foundation (TRF) has appointed Stephanie Mull as its executive director. Mull will lead the organization’s efforts to drive innovation and invest in the circular tire economy, grow end-of-life tire markets, and support research to address gaps in the tire recycling supply chain and sustainability.

Tire Recycling Forum – a major event dedicated to problems of tire recycling and pyrolysis – will be held on June 10-11, 2020 as part of The Tire Cologne. The event is organized by Ewan Scott – chief editor of Tyre and Rubber Recycling magazine. Last events proved to be great success and this time it is scaling up – six giants of the tire industry will take part in the Tire Cologne in Germany, Koelnmesse has recently confirmed. Tire producers such as Hankook, Nexen and other prominent industry players will also attend the event, which will host various conferences and seminars.
