Tinna Rubber & Infrastructure Ltd., India's largest tire recycler, is venturing into the Middle Eastern market with a majority stake acquisition in an Oman-based tire recycling operation. The Oman subsidiary, known as Global Recycle LLC, aims to recycle 10,000 metric tons annually in its initial phase, with plans to triple capacity in the coming years. This move grants Tinna access to the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC) and contributes to circularity in Oman's economy while generating employment opportunities.

The list of the states practicing unsafe pyrolysis include Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as noted by the local media.

According to the officials, the move is expected to bring down the cost of imports of carbon black for tire makers, small and medium-sized rubber goods manufacturers, while reducing the protection levels for domestic makers of carbon black such as Philips Carbon, Birla Carbon and Himadri Speciality, The Hindu Business Line reports. Yet, it remains unclear if consumers will benefit as much as they would depend on the rubber good producers passing it on to the customers, they added.

Gravita India Limited has announced that its step-down subsidiary, Gravita Netherlands BV (GNBV), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to acquire a waste tire recycling plant in Romania. India’s tax law portal TaxScan.in reported this March that The Maharashtra Authority for Advance Rulings (AAR) declined from determining classification (HSN) of Tire Pyrolysis Oil and the tax rate applicable to it, by reason of non-submission of full details pertaining to composition of the impugned product by the applicant. The order was passed in an application filed by Royal Carbon Black Pvt.Ltd., an entity engaged in the recycling of used tires. The application was preferred under Sec.97 of the Central Goods and Services Act and Maharashtra Goods and Services Act, for adjudicating upon the classification (HSN) of Tire Pyrolysis oil and the tax rate applicable to it.

Every year, India receives some 300,000 tons of waste tires from countries like Australia, where tires are either recycled, or disposed of. Nevertheless, these processes are not always safe and environment-friendly. The National Green Tribunal of India (NGT) has filed a plea accusing India of failing to come up with efficient scrap tires management solutions – this is alarming as the state is a producer of some 6 percent of total global tire waste. After the move, the tribunal has turned to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) with a request to present a plan that would address the problem of scrap tires control.
