Enviro (Scandinavian Enviro Systems) is to begin delivering recovered pyrolysis oil as part of the order from Preem that was announced in November of last year. Preem will use the oil as a raw material for production tests and the order value is estimated at approximately MSEK 2. Through production testing, Preem will determine how suitable the oil is for the production of different biofuels. These tests will take place at Preem’s refinery in Lysekil, which has already been granted a permit to conduct production tests of pyrolysis oil. This oil will be produced at Enviro’s plant in Åsensbruk where Enviro extracts for example oil from end-of-life vehicle tires using its proprietary and patented recycling technology.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) is once again nominated at the Recircle Awards, this year in the Tyre Pyrolysis Award category. In addition, CEO Thomas Sörensson is nominated for the Best Company Director award. Enviro has previously won the Tyre Pyrolysis Award twice and Best Tyre Recycler last year. "Enviro is making international progress and our technology is constantly being recognized, it is a great honor to be nominated together with other important sustainability players. Awards like this further highlight the importance of circular solutions for tire recycling," says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems has received a recovered pyrolysis oil order worth 2 million SEK from the subsidiary of a leading US oil company. The oil will be used for production tests at a European oil refinery owned by the oil company. Completion of the transaction is conditional upon Enviro’s recovered oil gaining a registration in accordance with the EU chemicals regulation, REACH. The company expects to obtain a REACH registration for the oil as an intermediate during the second quarter of 2022.

A Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator Scandinavian Enviro Systems and the French global tire manufacturer Michelin, have extended the letter of intent regarding a strategic partnership which was announced in April 2020. Initially the parties expected that a final agreement would have been reached by mid-year 2020, but the negotiations have been somewhat delayed, partly due to the ongoing pandemic. Therefore, Enviro and Michelin are prolonging the letter of intent until the end of October this year where both companies assess that they will be able to provide more details at the latest. Simultaneously the exclusivity agreement is also prolonged until October 31 this year.

Pyrolysis is a thermochemical pathway to treat vulcanized rubber for the recovery of valuable products. It involves the decomposition of the rubber at high temperatures (400 – 900°C) in the absence of an oxygen atmosphere. The main products of pyrolysis are a solid fraction, usually raw carbon black (according to ASTM D8178); a liquid fraction comprised of light oil, heavy oil, and tar; and a gas fraction. Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) has appointed Staffan Kullberg as new CFO. The appointment has been made to strengthen the company’s finance department in conjunction with the ongoing commercialisation and industrialisation of the company’s recycling technology. Staffan Kullberg has extensive experience within the field of finance and has previously held a number of senior positions in the Volvo Group, including as CFO of Volvo IT. He has also undertaken senior finance assignments for the investment company Ratos’s portfolio companies.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) received in February 2022 an order for pyrolysis oil from the subsidiary of a leading US oil company for production tests. The subsidiary has now informed Enviro that the production tests were successful. The oil was delivered in June following its approval in accordance with the EU REACH directive, a condition for a final deal. The subsidiary has since carried out production tests of the delivered oil to determine how suitable it is for the production of various biofuels. These tests have now been finalized and Enviro has been informed by the client that the tests were successful.

Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) and Swedish oil company Nynas AB are launching a joint research project with Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) to develop a process for refining pyrolysis oil recovered from end-of-life tires. As reported by Enviro, refining process will allow the oil to be used in more than fuel, which both increases the value of the recovered oil and reduces the environmental impact. “This project seeks to increase the economic and environmental profitability of both tire pyrolysis and tire recycling in general, and to promote the sustainable conversion of refineries for base oil production,” says Linda Sandström, the project manager at RISE ETC.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) – a Swedish tire pyrolysis equipment supplier and operator – says it made a strategic recruitment by employing Fredrik Alpner as the Site Manager for the company’s plant in Åsensbruk and future plant in Uddevalla. Enviro highlights that Alpner has a long-standing background as production manager in the global processing industry and will take up a new role that will contribute to both the continued industrialization and commercialization of Enviro’s leading tire pyrolysis technology and realizing the company’s expansion plan.
