Ecopneus announces new decree for the end-of-life tire management in Italy

Regulations

April 13, 2020

In its recent press release, Ecopneus – Italian non-profit end-of-life tire management authority – informed about the reduction of the environmental contribution levied on new tires, greater controls on online tire purchases, better service for tire specialists and more stringent collection obligations to avoid any risk of end-of-life tire disposal in the open environment. These are the main novelties of the new Decree for the management of ELTs (DM 182/2019), introduced to improve the end-of-life tire recycling industry in Italy. Ecopneus says that this way the industry will have clearer and more transparent rules for all parties involved, for the benefit of operators and for an increasing recycling of tires.

Gradeall International introduced its new OTR tyre cutting equipment

Gradeall International introduced its new OTR tyre cutting equipment

Technology

April 10, 2020

Gradeall’s team pinpoints that the current problem in OTR tyre recycling is that these huge tyres take up a lot of space and are very heavy at approximately 600 kg per tyre making them take up a lot of space, they are impossible to move by hand and costly to transport due to low amount of material fitting on a trailer. Using the Gradeall OTR cutting range these large tyres can be cut down into easy to manage segments weighing under 25Kg which means they can be lifted and moved around by anyone. These segments can be baled, shredded, sent for pyrolysis or any of the further recycling methods that are available to conventional tyres.

National University of Singapore develops world’s first aerogels from end-of-life tire rubber

Innovations

April 2, 2020

A team of researchers at the National University of Singapore (NUS) reports about achieving a major technological breakthrough by converting end-of-life tires into super-light aerogels that have a wide range of applications. This is the first time that aerogels are made from end-of-life tires, the University reports. The new rubber aerogels demonstrate remarkable properties — they are extremely light, highly absorbent, very durable, and they are also very efficient at trapping heat and sound.

Upgrade your pyrolysis reactor to survive in post-Corona oil price drop markets

Reactor Upgrade

March 31, 2020

Crude oil prices are testing sub $20 territory, some analysts predict further decreases. This puts immense pressures on tire pyrolysis operators who depend on fuel oil sales as their main source of revenue. Experts at Weibold have engineered a cost effective upgrade program for batch reactors that will: • convert your reactor to continuous processing • add heat cycles to improve output and separation • allow you to keep processing the same feedstock • increase capacity 3 - 4 fold • reduce energy costs
