Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) recently announced the official launch of Golflex; an innovative product developed by Flexiroc Australia, Environmental Golf Solutions and Turf One, with the backing of TSA. Golflex converts recycled end-of-life tires into crumb rubber to deliver a hard-wearing, durable, flexible and porous surface. It is the perfect solution for cart paths and bunker linings on golf courses. Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) – the authority responsible for end-of-life tire management and regulations in the country – is calling for all property developers, facility managers, landlords and farming communities to remain vigilant ahead of the Commonwealth’s waste export ban on whole used tires coming into effect 1 December 2021. In its press release from September 21, TSA stresses the organization was established in 2014 to implement the national Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (Scheme) which aims to promote the development of viable markets for end-of-life tires. The Scheme has multiple benefits including transforming a waste product into a useful commodity, creating new industries and employment opportunities while also reducing the environmental harm caused by the illegal dumping, stockpiling and mismanagement of end-of-life tires.

Austroads – the collective of the Australian and New Zealand transport agencies, representing all levels of government – has published the results of research which proposes a specification for the use of a binder containing crumb rubber from recycled tires in the construction of asphalt pavements. Ross Guppy, Austroads Transport Infrastructure Program Manager says there has been an increased focus on using sustainable and recycled materials for road construction and maintenance. “Crumb rubber is predominantly obtained from vehicle tires. Every year Australia and New Zealand produce more than 510,000 tonnes of end‑of‑life tires.

The oil and recovered carbon black that Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) produces from end-of-life tires in its plant in Åsensbruk have been accredited under the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme. The information comes from the recent press release by the company. In doing so, Enviro has become – reportedly – the first company in the world to receive ISCC certification for recovered carbon black, and the certification is also confirmation of the previously communicated higher commercial values of both carbon black and oil.

REVYRE Australia and New Zealand have stepped up a gear in the waste tire sector, raising capital and partnering with Project Portfolio Management P/L (PPM).The MOU with PPM brings a highly capable team with the right values, project management and operational capabilities in the mining and heavy industrial sectors to support REVYRE accelerate and realize our strategy. Last year, InfraCo and Energy Estate announced the REVYRE joint venture – a partnership dedicated to addressing the global End-of-Life Tyre (ELT) disposal problem. Since then, significant progress has been made for REVYRE’s first Facilities in both countries and gaining support from potential feedstock providers.
