Kal Tire – international OTR and mining tire manufacturer was recently nominated for the Recircle Awards in the category “Best Retreading Industry Innovation” for its Carbon Calculator / Maple Program launched in 2020. Kal Tire’s Carbon Calculator quantifies environmental savings when retreading OTR and mining tires that reached their end-of-life stage. The Maple Program uses data from Kal Tire’s new carbon calculator to award customers with one to five stars according to the percentage of their fleet running retreads rather than new tires. The program is first launching in Chile and the UK, with plans to roll out in other regions Kal Tire operates.

According to the officials, the move is expected to bring down the cost of imports of carbon black for tire makers, small and medium-sized rubber goods manufacturers, while reducing the protection levels for domestic makers of carbon black such as Philips Carbon, Birla Carbon and Himadri Speciality, The Hindu Business Line reports. Yet, it remains unclear if consumers will benefit as much as they would depend on the rubber good producers passing it on to the customers, they added.

the $2.5 million project is to essentially rebuild streets within the triangle created by Louise Avenue on the south, Highway 99 on the east and the commercial property facing North Main Street will include recycled crushed tires in the asphalt mix. A $350,000 CalRecycle grant is what made the rubberized asphalt project possible. The project to repave Springtime Estates along with Mayors Park in the triangle bounded by Louise Avenue on the north, Union Road on the east and the railroad tracks on the west is before the City Council when they convene Tuesday at 7 p.m. during a Zoom meeting. The council meeting can be viewed via livestreaming on the city’s website or on Comcast Channel 97.

An online magazine Riviera Maya News reports that the Recyclable Materials Collection Centre of Cozumel, Mexico, transferred 28.5 tons of end-of-life tires to a tire recycling plant in Tabasco, Mexico. The Deputy Director of the tire recycling plant, Adeb Zapata Silva, reported that they loaded another truck heading to the Geocycle tire recycling plant where the end-of-life tires will be processed into alternative fuel.

The Hindu Business Line magazine reports that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) of India has reproached the Environment Ministry over delay in a report by the committee which was set up to review imports of hazardous waste including end-of-life tires, lead and PCBs. According to the magazine, a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said mere constituting a committee does not serve any purpose unless the matter is taken to a logical end. The National Green Tribunal said that even though a committee is said to have been constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) more than a year ago, no reason is given why no report has been submitted.

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries released its monthly report where it says the world production of natural rubber (NR) contracted at 8.3%, year-over-year, to 11.376 million tons during the first 11 months of 2020 (January – November) and likely to fall by 8.9%, year-over-year, for December 2020. The outlook “Natural Rubber Trends & Statistics December 2020” says that the supply in 2020 is revised upward by 81,000 tons to 12.678 million tons compared to the outlook presented in the last issue. While the world production is anticipated to recover in January 2021 by producing about 1.192 million tons of NR against 1.056 million tons in January 2020.
