ANRPC issues natural rubber statistics for May 2019

ANRPC recently announced the release of its new Natural Rubber Trends and Statistics. Based on ANRPC’s preliminary estimates, the world production of natural rubber (NR) registered a fall of 6.5% (4.930 million tons) during the first five months of 2019, on a year-to-year basis. Meanwhile, the world consumption recorded 5.789 million tons, 0.9% increase (5.376 million tons) during the same period last year. This favorable market fundamentals have kept the sentiment in NR market strong despite the tension between China and US, ANRPC reports.

French waste tire authority supplies Africa with shredded tires by sea

5.300 tons of tires shredded by Aliapur – French waste tire management authority – were shipped on July 11, 2019 on board the bulk carrier “Notos” from Dunkirk to Dakar. The goal for the waste tire management authority was to supply alternative fuel to the Sococim de Rufisque cement plant in Senegal using the waterway and the sea. Senegal becomes the first country in West Africa to receive tire-derived fuel supplies from Aliapur. It is also the first time that Aliapur operates from Dunkirk, a sea and river port with the capacity to absorb the storage in transit of 5,300 tons of TDF.

Australian Tyre Recyclers Association (ATRA) reports about the decision of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to ban the exports of various waste products, including scrap tires. COAG has introduced a timetable to make the ban effective; the initiative was supported and welcomed by ATRA. “There are two distinct streams of used tyre exports, one is sustainable, the other clearly is not and a timetable to ban the export of whole baled tyres from Australia is welcomed”, said Robert Kelman, Executive Officer at ATRA.

The Government of Indonesia is hosting the conference in Yogyakarta. A new US research on synthetic turf fields that contain tire-derived crumb rubber has found that the material posed no risk to human health. The investigation commenced in 2016 and was run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (CDC/ATSDR) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The two authoritative bodies worked in association with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
