A South African entrepreneur set up a company Cubic38 specializing in scrap tire reuse; Mzokhona Maxase’s idea is to use recycled tires to make shine and shoe polish products. To create his merchandise, Maxase relies on char – a by-product of waste tire recycling. Speaking about the creation of his start-up, the entrepreneur revealed that the company was set up in 2017 and it was seeking an objective – to find green solutions to scrap tire problem, which poses serious risk to the environment in South Africa.

A scrap tire collector Credential Environmental Limited (CEL) produced over 250,000 tons of tire derived fuel (TDF) and tire derived aggregate (TDA) thanks to CM Shredders technology, Robert Taylor, Site Manager for Credential Environmental stated this month in a letter addressed to the staff of the CM Shredders. In that message, the manager praised the machinery provided by CM and stressed that his company was happy about the quality and reliability of CM’s products. He added: “CM Shredders was able to provide the most advanced shredding technology and equipment which allows us to sell the best quality rubber in the market.”

Iskenderun on the Turkish Mediterranean coast will see a development of scrap tire recycling plant producing carbon black as Turkish government-controlled fund Oyak signed a deal with International CSRC Investment Holding from Taiwan. According to Oyak, the facility will be able to produce some 220 kilotons annually.

Funds provided by Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) will help at least six councils in South Australia commence trials using crumb rubber recycled from scrap tires for asphalt projects. The trials are considered the biggest of its kind in the country, according to TSA CEO Lina Goodman. The move to use recycled rubber is seen as an opportunity to advance circular economy in the state. Roads that rely on recycled tires will serve as alternative to conventional asphalt.
