Swedish tire pyrolysis operator and equipment manufacturer Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) reports about a long-term strategic partnership with the French global tire manufacturer Michelin which resolved to conduct a private placement of approximately SEK 32.5 million (EUR 2.97 million), by which Michelin, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Michelin Ventures SAS, will subscribe for shares in Enviro corresponding to holdings of 20% after the issue. The strategic partnership is intended to include, among other things, the establishment of a jointly owned recycling plant for end-of-life tires and joint development work to expand the possibilities for the materials that are recycled using Enviro’s technology.

In the end of this article we make an estimation of a possible annual market size of recovered carbon black, modestly assuming virgin carbon black substitution rate at 20%. Hint: numbers suggest that recovered carbon black production is a profitable business rich in opportunities. Traditionally Carbon Black (CB) has been used as both a reinforcing agent and filler in automobile tires. Along with better understanding of CB’s unique properties as a material, it is presently used in a much wider range of applications across a large variety of products – car tires, conveyor belts, inks, plastic pipes, rubber mats, shoe soles and so forth. Virgin CB contains only trace amounts of impurities and carbon content is very close to 100%.

Bolder Industries recently announced their exclusive partnership agreement with Kleenair Industrial Products Co to be, reportedly, among the first specialty manufacturers of pyrolysis equipment to produce consistent, on-spec, high-quality Bolder Black, reusable synthetic gas and multiple cuts of oil. Bolder Black is the charter product for Bolder industries and replaces petroleum-derived carbon black for the use in creating the most sustainable plastic and rubber products globally. The intellectual property for the technology is co-owned by Kleenair Industrial Products and Bolder Industries.

Attempting to cut costs while launching a tire recycling or pyrolysis business, young companies often fall prey to low-quality equipment manufacturers whose equipment does not correspond to their promises. Typically, such a low quality equipment has far more attractive prices and very often it comes from Asian countries, where labor costs are still very low. Despite the low price, such an equipment can kill a young pyrolysis company or significantly undermine it’s operation. In this article Weibold focuses on issues of low-priced pyrolysis machinery and sheds light on the most common problems occurring with pyrolysis equipment suppliers from the Far East.

The speakers will share their reports on how markets for recycled tire products will be expanded. Attendees will learn which recycled rubber products may see the greatest demand in the new decade.

On February 25-27, 2020, Martin von Wolfersdorff – recovered carbon black expert from Germany – will attend the Tire Technology Expo in Hannover. Meet Mr. Wolfersdorff during the conference to learn more about recent developments in the industry. On day 3 of the event, the expert will deliver a speech "Solving the Problem of Waste Tires", where he will highlight tire-to-tire material recycling examples in the whole tire value chain from OEM car builders to tire makers, tire raw material suppliers as well as successful "circular" tire recycling companies.
