T.O. Fuller State Park outside Memphis, Tennessee has had a new 2.5 mile trail laid using recycled tire rubber. The walking and biking path is one of the longest rubber-base trails in the U.S. Local contractors and volunteers collected more than 24,000 tires that had been illegally dumped in the area from passenger, commercial truck and heavy equipment vehicles.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) reports about a landmark project where asphalt made using crumb rubber from used tyres was laid on a busy Melbourne road. The project was co-funded by Tyre Stewardship Australia and it has won the prestigious Sustainable Transport Infrastructure Award at the National Transport Research Awards. The demonstration project across a 1.4km section of East Boundary Road in Bentleigh East, Victoria is supported by the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) and the Victorian Department of Transport (DoT).

According to Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA), Queensland's Sunshine Coast Council is harnessing off-the-road (OTR) tyres' performance qualities by using crumb rubber from end-of-life OTR tyres in new asphalt roads. The pavement industry faces different challenges in realizing more silent and eco-friendly pavements that need less maintenance. The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA), in partnership with The Ray – a nonprofit proving ground for sustainable transportation technologies – recently announced a research project to assess and compile existing research on the performance, environmental impacts and benefits of using ground tire rubber (GTR) in asphalt. The news was reported by an online magazine “The Published Reporter.” According to the source, the compiled research will result in a state of knowledge report that outlines existing research and identifies data gaps in the use of ground tire rubber in rubber modified asphalt.

In Brazil the main highway is using asphalt binders modified by tyre rubber powder, and currently Cbb Asfaltos, a Brazilian company, who received a Green Patent for the process from the Brazilian Government, has the best technology in Latin America for this process.
